Topic: Invalidating "Dummy Thicc" (Mods Please Reject Alias 56226)

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #2683 is active.

change category dummy_thicc (0) -> invalid

Reason:

It's a vague, undefined, useless tag - and it isn't even being used for the dummy thicc meme

It's been tagged and retagged to posts with: characters that have big, huge, or hyper butts, characters that have thick thighs, characters with curvy figures, overweight and obese characters and so on... there is no clear usage of this tag in practice and there likely never will be. Ultimately it doesn't define anything that isn't already described by at least a dozen other clearer, more intuitive, and far more popular tags.

Please Reject https://e621.net/tag_aliases/56226

I made that alias in error, and want to change this recategorization to a tag alias

EDIT: The bulk update request #2683 (forum #338258) has been approved by @gattonero2001.

I forgot that I made this same suggestion back in January (topic #32119). I hope this isn't taken as spamming or that a duplicate BUR is going to cause problems in getting approved.

Invalidating this tag may be a little more urgent now, seeing as someone recently has been mass tagging it, it's gone from a few dozen posts to over 200.

Updated

If it's invalid to the point of "just remove it", it should be aliased to invalid_tag instead. Tags in the Invalid category should serve as indicators that there was a mistag that can be fixed, either as a result of a typo and/or because it's ambiguous (in which case the wiki should say what it could mean), but if it's just something to remove on sight, an alias to invalid_tag is preferable.

Make that 0 posts :3

I removed a lot of them a day ago just by reverting post changes, there's a specific user that keeps adding this tag while also mistagging the posts with "huge thighs" and "hyper butt". Expect to see the tag repopulated within a day or two, unfortunately.

Thank you, my (wrong) understanding was that updating the tag to invalid category would cause it to show up as invalid_tag when added to a post, I'll change the BUR in that case.

Edit: won't allow me to change it to an alias, gives me

Error: Antecedent name has already been taken (create alias dummy_thicc -> invalid_tag)

but there isn't an existing alias suggestion I can find.

This could plausibly be replaced with thick_thighs, wide_hips, or probably others. Invalid category is 100% the right choice here.

You've got three: two BURs – this one and the other one you made — and an alias request with a deleted forum thread. This particular tag apparently really bugs the living dummy hecc out of you.

So this is a long and stupid story that I'm literally only piecing together now...

Eight months ago I made a BUR, it contained alias dummy_thicc -> invalid_tag among some other aliases... in a thread that I later hid... I have no idea why I did that, since the aliases were good suggestions. In that thread, for some reason, a now deactivated user suggested that dummy_thicc should be instead be aliased to thick which is an invalid tag, in order to invalidate it.

Two months later, not knowing any better, I made alias dummy_thicc -> thick (topic #32043 hidden for some reason, would be nice to have this one rejected) which got this reply:

your intended course of action for this type of alias request is to use the BUR to request categorization.
i.e. category dummy_thicc -> invalid
at least I think that's how it would be formatted

Once again, not knowing any better, after seeing that reply a few days later, I made the BUR on topic #32119.

With dummy_thicc being around a couple dozen posts or so for the past six months, I completely forgot about that BUR, but now that someone has been mass tagging dummy_thicc I thought "this tag really should be invalidated" and made this BUR.

Of course, now I get the suggestion to do what I originally attempted to do eight months ago, to alias dummy_thicc to invalid_tag - because of the line in the first BUR I got the "Antecedent name" error, so I edited the BUR and removed the line aliasing dummy_thicc, for good measure I rejected the BUR because it's in a hidden thread anyways, and I wanted to rewrite it to include some other related aliases/implications.

At this point I think the system is broken, since it still thinks there's a "Antecedent name" taken (whatever that means) and it won't allow me to change to alias dummy_thicc -> invalid_tag

It's because your thick alias (the one with the hidden thread) hasn't been rejected yet. The site doesn't allow multiple pending alias requests for the same tag. BURs don't have this restriction.

Ah so that's what's causing the problem, I didn't know aliases worked like that. Added a note to reject my alias to the title and post.

Just report your old request's thread and ask for it to be unhidden since it's an alias request. It's best to include as much discussion as possible, rather than to hide it.

Can you not unhide your own threads if you want to? It wouldn't solve the problem anyway, since admins can still read hidden threads and those are the only people who can take the necessary action.

Just a note that my vote is a +1 for the category and -1 for the alias. We should not be aliasing things with plausible replacements to invalid_tag.

I'm now thinking that making it invalid category could be better, possibly aliasing it to dummy_thicc_(disambiguation) which in turn would be invalid. The disambiguation page could list the actual meme, along with some various body part/figure tags.
