Topic: [APPROVED] Tag alias: <3 -> heart_symbol

You put it in backwards. Everything aliases to <3. You'd need a BUR to undo those if you want to change it to from.

Oh, I thought those other aliases would be updated automatically.

And yeah, I intend to alias away from <3

Looking at the alias request, it appears those will be automatically updated as well. (Altough, I guess there are name changes that would need to be applied as well)

I recall people making a big fuss when it comes to aliasing <3 to heart_symbol. I would suggest unimplying everything currently implied with <3 first and then disambiguating it.

Ok, I see the arguments against heart_symbol now. Gonna need to rethink the whole thing.

I'd vote to move <3_eyes to heart_eyes and have heart_pupils imply it. Not all instances of hearts in eyes involve the actual pupils being heart-shaped- you can have hearts in the eye alongside the pupil/iris. Or at least that's how I've been applying <3_eyes.

I believe that it would be more useful to separate the three concepts.

They are quite visually distinct in my opinion.

Additionally there might be posts in which there are hearts outside of the pupils but contained within the irises, though I can't seem to find any at the moment.

Yeah I see the point of keeping them distinct. Leaving aside the minor issue of hearts outside the pupils (heart_catchlight might work?), where are hearts_in_eyes meant to alias to? It can both mean heart_pupils and hearts_in_pupils. Something feels off about aliasing them to a disambiguation tag.

I think all of them can imply heart_eyes now that it has already been approved.
As for the distinction between heart_pupils and hearts_in_pupils, should we keep them separate or expand heart_pupils to include both instances?

I'm of the opinion that they should be kept separate. If we expand heart_pupils to include both, heart_catchlight becomes a subcategory of heart_pupils too

I think they should probably be combined and aliased to heart_eyes. I don't think most taggers would bother with the difference especially with heart_eyes, and the naming doesn't do the greatest job distinguishing them. You can have heart shapes in the iris, pupils, and/or sclera, you can have the pupils or iris in the shape of a heart, or you can have a heart replacing the pupils or iris, or a heart covering part of or replacing the entire eye. Up to now, <3_eyes was the tag for hearts in/on/replacing eyes, which is now aliased to heart_eyes. I wager people will continue to tag <3_eyes/heart_eyes for the general concept, rather than trying to figure out what other tag fits more specifically to how exactly the hearts are displayed in relation to the eyes.

I'm working on drafting a big heart BUR, and leaving so many tags out because I'm unsure on them... Sigh. This will take a while to compose.

Edit: Actually, one step at a time is easier... I'm just gonna make a heart_clothing BUR for now.
