remove implication watercolor_(artwork) (4235) -> painting_(artwork) (6391)
remove implication gouache_(artwork) (270) -> painting_(artwork) (6391)
remove implication oil_painting_(artwork) (565) -> painting_(artwork) (6391)
remove implication casein_painting_(artwork) (1) -> painting_(artwork) (6391)
remove implication acrylic_painting_(artwork) (254) -> painting_(artwork) (6391)
remove implication painting_(artwork) (6391) -> traditional_media_(artwork) (68323)
remove alias paint_(artwork) (0) -> painting_(artwork) (6391)

Reason: Painting (artwork) is a very poorly thought out name for "traditional paintings", which has made it a constantly misunderstood tag. This tag is frequently added to digital paintings, on drawings that show a character making a painting, or even scenes with framed paintings in the background. This mistagging is so bad that false tags have occurred regularly for years. I've carefully gone through and collected hundreds of mistagged posts, and corrected them, so now all that are left in the tag (barring new incorrect entries to the tag) are actual traditionally created paintings.

The only logical replacement tag name I can think of is traditional_painting_(artwork). I think breaking this process up might be easier and less unwieldy as far as approving goes than having a single BUR. This first part removes the aliases and implications to painting_(artwork)

The Plan:
1. unimply all traditional painting mediums from painting_(artwork), unalias paint_(artwork) from painting_(artwork)
2. move all posts under painting_(artwork) to traditional_painting_(artwork)
3. imply all traditional painting mediums to traditional_painting_(artwork), imply the tag to traditional_media_(artwork)
4. alias paint_(artwork) and painting_(artwork) to a disambiguation tag, categorize both tags as invalid

EDIT: The bulk update request #2804 (forum #339457) has been approved by @scaliespe.

The bulk update request #2805 is pending approval.

mass update painting_(artwork) -> traditional_painting_(artwork)
create implication casein_painting_(artwork) (1) -> traditional_painting_(artwork) (0)
create implication acrylic_painting_(artwork) (254) -> traditional_painting_(artwork) (0)
create implication oil_painting_(artwork) (565) -> traditional_painting_(artwork) (0)
create implication gouache_(artwork) (270) -> traditional_painting_(artwork) (0)
create implication watercolor_(artwork) (4235) -> traditional_painting_(artwork) (0)
create implication traditional_painting_(artwork) (0) -> traditional_media_(artwork) (68323)

Reason:

2. move all posts under painting_(artwork) to traditional_painting_(artwork)
3. imply all traditional painting mediums to traditional_painting_(artwork), imply the tag to traditional_media_(artwork)

Part three would be

alias painting_(artwork) -> painting_(disambiguation)
alias paint_(artwork) -> painting_(disambiguation)
category paint_(disambiguation) -> invalid
category painting_(disambiguation) -> invalid

But an existing alias is blocking this

Better to alias paint_(disambiguation) to painting_(disambiguation) to reduce the number of different disambiguation tags.

Good point, I'll change it when I can create that BUR

I feel like the implications oil_painting_(artwork) -> traditional_painting_(artwork), watercolor_(artwork) -> traditional_painting_(artwork), etc, may run into the same issue as with painting_(artwork). Many digital art programs have options to create the look of different mediums, so for example, someone could tag watercolor_(artwork) or oil_painting_(artwork) if it was done digitally with the look of watercolor or oil. Having traditional art split into sub-types like marker, watercolor, gauche, oil, etc, while all digital painting is just digital_painting_(artwork) with no separation of appearance seems a bit unfair.

We’ll probably need to address this before I can approve the second part. Digital watercolor is becoming somewhat common and I’ve seen it tagged as traditional art due to the existing implications.

Should there be a separate digital_watercolor_(artwork) tag, rather than tagging it watercolor_(artwork)+digital_painting_(artwork)? And there isn't a traditional_watercolor_(artwork) tag, it's just watercolor_(artwork) that people may tag for digital art not realizing there's a separate tag.

Personally I'd much rather not do that because I feel it'd be confusing to people and lead to a lot of missing traditional_painting_(artwork) tags, but perhaps we could rename the traditional watercolor tag to traditional_watercolor_(artwork)?
