A combination of using the tags tool (*sheep) the wiki page for it (bighorn_sheep) (it's quicker than searching implications then searching aliases) and trying to tag really old posts. A search like *panties* -panties works a lot of the time as well, but it depends on the tag tree.

I mostly ignore anything that has under 50 posts or less unless I already happen to be trying to organize through that particular tag tree.
