Topic: [REJECTED] Tag implication: andre_(dosent) -> andré_(dosent)

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag implication #45506 andre_(dosent) -> andré_(dosent) has been rejected.

Reason: Hi,

I noticed a potentially false tag implication that states that " andrew_(dosent) " is either the same as or should be spelled " andre_(dosent) ". However, in the artist's description of post #2575866, it is stated that André (voluntarily spelled with an accent on the "e") and Andrew are two distinct characters, one being the female rabbiy and the other being the male squirrel : " Andrew and André being cute and horny"

André is the male squirrel, as can be deduced from post #1284421 and post #1318871. That would make the female rabbit Andrew. However, since her "character name" tag have been merged through implication with André's, typing " Andrew_(dosent) " will lead to posts where André (the squirrel) is present, even those without Andrew (the rabbit), making it impossible for anyone to find posts casting her through her tag, or to find posts with her only (if they exist or come to exist one day).

I am simply asking that the tag implication is removed so I may properly tag the posts in which either or both characters are present. Also, should we be concerned that the "é" in " André " is respected, or should we leave it as such ?

I am asking this through the tag implication request because I am unable to connect the discord server to ask for help or the proper procedure. I hope it is not a problem to do so.

Thank you and have a nice day.

EDIT: The tag implication andre_(dosent) -> andré_(dosent) (forum #340985) has been rejected by @bitWolfy.

Best to ditch the accents, since they're so difficult to enter into tags.

Sure, ok ! But what about the main problem I exposed about the problematic merge ? Is there a way to restaure both tags as separated ones ?

if you want to discuss the andrew/andre situation then just make a normal forum post about it. please don't make fake tag requests like this

Of course. Sorry. Since it concerned a tag merge, I thought it would be a good place, but I understand.

Then, is there a way of deleting it so it does not disturb people any further ?

Just wait till it gets rejected, and leave it be.

An alias would be better anyway so that those who don't type the acute can have it automatically added for them. But that can't be done unless the andrew_(dosent) alias is removed first.

I wouldn't say this was a fake request, just a misinterpretation of where our stance on accents is (which meant it was backwards--the accent should alias to unaccented).

why?

So that anybody trying to use the accent "to be proper" will get it corrected anyways. Helpful if some punk decides to take it into their own hands to "Help" the site by manually changing the tags instead of looking into why it is the way it is.

well, the accent is proper, though. no? it be best to tag stuff with their actual names rather than an approximation just because that's easier to type on Windows PCs with standard keyboards. but also like, if it's an alias it dosn't matter what you can type because both tags are the same tag. heck, I'm not sure it even matter that much without an alias, the autocomplete dropdown list can usually give you the correct tag if you're a couple letters off.

By the same argument, someone trying to use the unaccented version will get it corrected to the "proper", accented version without having to deal with a character map or trying to remember Alt130.

Some parts of the site still don't like accents. Such as the blacklist. If you wanted to see Dosent's stuff, just not his characters, you'd still see André due to that.

I could see weird stuff happening with how Unicode deals with diacritics, but e acute is part of the ASCII character set, it should be fine.

It's not fine. I checked.

I can blacklist tags with é just fine. If it didn't work we'd likely be hearing uproar from people that can't blacklist pokémon every day.

it's fine, I checked. blacklisting pokémon works, blacklisting fakémon works, blacklisting pepé le pew works. I also tested it with a tag with an umlaut o, an n tilde, and an a grave, all with no problems. I could try with every other ASCII character, but like, I don't see the point...
can you give me an example of it not working?

Oh, right, wildcards don't work.

I swear a few months back there was some issue with the accent in blacklists.
