Requested feature overview description.
Bring back the old feature of setting a tag's category by using the category as preffix, but only when creating new tags.

Why would it be useful?
I understand this feature was removed because of abuse, but that's not possible if it's limited to a tag which is being created. It saves some time for whoever creates a new tag and has no downsides.

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?
Any page in which tags can be added to a post.

I think it already works like that, I swear I've created new character tags with the character: prefix and it starts out as a character tag

Just tested artist: and char: prefixes for new (made-up) tags. They both still work. What you are proposing is exactly how it already works.

This is definitely still a thing.

I thought they specifically took away artist:, making it so that you had to go to the tag wiki to change its category to artist of it was needed. Did they change that back?

It wasn't completely removed, artist: and the other category prefixes only work upon creation of a tag. If it's been used before that it still exists as an empty tag.

The ability to change existing tags is technically still there too, just restricted to a staff user rank. Either janitor or moderator, can't remember which.

The limitation you might have encountered is that a tag is only counted as empty if there are absolutely 0 submissions using the tag, including deleted submissions. The counter in the tag list does not count deleted submissions, so a tag may appear empty even if it is still used on deleted submissions.

Might not be a bad idea to say this feature exists somewhere onthe wiki or upload screen. I didn't know this existed till now.

I can easily change tag categories, without either rank (usually on first time artist or character tags were the uploader didn't know you had to set the tag's category.) I just remember no longer being able to us artist: with existing tags some years ago.
