Topic: Made some art. But it gets down voted

I made some art and I'll admit I'm not as good as most artists on here but it got down voted.
The downvotes aren't a lot but it still aches to see that I don't have any upvotes.

It is not possible to know the exact reason why people are downvoting your art, but I believe it might be because you neglected to tag the posts with amputee which is a commonly blacklisted tag.

I added it for you this time but please try to remember to use it when applicable.

It's feels bad when someone negatively criticizing something you've created.

I drew cartoons but others do not undestand, that doesn't mean they were bad.
Just keep drawing and make what you want! The style that the audience likes can be found by experimenting if you want that too.

Is that so? I'm really sorry, I didn't know that was a common blacklisted tag. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much, your words have inspired me to keep on going with my art.
Thank you so much!

Yeah, it really stinks when someone won't tell you why they left a downvote and you're left guessing and worrying about what the reason could be.

You're more talented than me, at any rate.

This site isn't for beginner artists, and it's especially not good if you're looking for validation.

Also, you didn't even make an artist tag for yourself.

To be honest, this is one reason why it's recommended you don't personally upload your own works to e621 unless you're quite willing and able to laugh off any downvotes you get. They'll happen for a myriad of reasons while e621 is not a platform you can curate yourself. You're going to sometimes need a thick hide, not just against downvotes but also comments, if you're going to post your pictures here. However, if you're able to manage a rhino's hide against any potential criticism, post away.

From what I saw, that's nothing. You should check out the shit storm when it's cuckold art that features a girlfriend thirsting over a huge cock while her boyfriend sits in the back crying. The thing is, people will vote your art down anyway after being told hundreds of times to use their blacklist.

Yeah, you(the artist) draw them for yourself. Or, if you're not drawing them for yourself, you'd better be getting paid! But people that do 'those' tags get used to the downvotes because they know that their audience is dwarfed by the haters. i.e. hyper, scat, vore, etc.

Additionally, if you mouseover the scores, you'll see you're getting upvotes, just getting downvotes at the same time.

Simply put, half of the people who see your work and feel like responding like it, which isn't bad.

Your art's better than I expected it would be, but as others have said, downvotes can happen for so many reasons it's best to take the thick-skin approach to votes and comments. Got a bunch of downvotes? Eh who cares. Bunch of upvotes? Just got lucky with the timing. Singular persons complaining about this and that? Maybe take a look at it but understand that they might just be nonsensical or joking (I've seen people compare a penis to a soda can because the artist likes girthy penises but doesn't draw veins, that's the kind of comparison you can probably ignore)

My own criticism:

  • The head's a bit large. It doesn't look like he could hold both arms straight up at the same time.
  • The penis color stands out in a bad way. You draw hair colored tufts and leg hairs, while keeping the body itself too humanoid. The "Fur" color became his skin color, and the penis should have matched.
  • The penis glans (head) is much too pink. The nipples were brown, the glans should have been too (I'm less certain on this one, see if others agree or not)
  • Too little detail to the toes. You got the shape of the foot okay, but the toes are too round, particularly at the bent joints and should-be-flat phalanx (the long bones, is there a more laymans term for that?). While toes are naturally fattier due to being shorter, there's still only a slight bulge of fat to the middle phalanx on shorter toes. We can ignore the short/long argument since you went for a uniform length, but short toes also don't curl so strong, basically only going as far as pointing down.
  • Poor attempt at throwing a pad onto the hand, which is its own tricky affair after mastering hands in the first place; seeing the pad barely jut out under the fingers makes it initially look like the palm is too short, hiding the fact that the hand still does go down a bit more before it hits the wrist. For this one, consider looking at references like post #3454396: The pad tends to be split into separate bulges to allow it to be larger. and conform to the standard human palm shape (in my link, the lower bulges create the pinky-and-thumb lower palm bulges).
  • The thumb is just too short. Try looking at your own fist, curled up with your them beneath your index finger, not going any further: The entire girth of the thumb's middle phalanx runs to the side of where the line of the index would go, not merging into it at all.

https://e621.net/posts/3370028#comment-6542550 It's like this one - the art is not bad and fits into the fetish I tagged it with but... not approved because no one liked the artist. Not the artist's fault.

The artist would have nothing to do with it going unapproved. I don't know if it just erases the number of reviewers after autodeletion or if none reviewed it, but you could always DM a staff member and ask if it really deserved the autodeletion.

Ah, OK. It's possible that no one looked at it?
