Topic: Moderation...?

Posted under General

Okay.
I'm not trying to throw a rant here, I'm just seriously judging the intellect of whoever deleted my post.
Here, post #581904 you see an extremely low res, edited drawing of a feral wolf with wings.
Neato.
I decided to upload the original image, which can be found here: http://pic.fotico.ru/94/241/11824194.jpg
It's not the best res, but it's the original image and the best I can find.
A moderator took it down because it apparently "Does not meet minimum quality standards". post #583532

Are you serious?
post #581904 isn't deleted for it's absolutely horrid quality but my post, which was the original, unedited art, was?
Somebody explain this to me, please?

The explanation is that it took me 3 hours to go through the entire moderation queue, which today amounted to something above 620 submissions.

Also, and this may be a bit more interesting, I always deal with non-approved, not-FFD posts first, after these are all done I go through the FFD's.

Which means 2 things:

1.) I saw your post first.
2.) There were approximately 400 images to be judged and dealt with between yours and the FFD one.

If anybody is wondering why I do this order, it allows people to continue posting if they hit their respective limits, FFDs can wait, uploads can't.

B) probably don't question the intellect of the site admins

It was only just now deleted then, probably because I posted about it.

I can understand your method, but what shocks me is that somebody actually approved of that post.

Nah, I literally deleted everything, thought to myself "DONE! Now to check forums... of course", and then I replied.

Titanmelon is not yet perfectly familiar with our (newer) quality standards, so this is going to happen every now and then.

How did it get to built up op so high?

we have 4 janitors and 14 admins (though some of the admins accounts are rarely used)

and with an average of 202 posts a day

Stuff like this shouldn't happen.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that for the most part the admin positions are unpaid.
It's not very reasonable to expect unpaid people to spend that much time dealing with new posts/deletions.
Not to mention the fact that it's not all that they do, admins have a bunch of other daily crap to deal with too.

I believe that some of the admins also happen to be paid staff (varka, Tony, Char, EDFDarkAngel, plus a few others maybe), but that the majority are unpaid. And I think DarkAngel is the only person paid JUST to administrate the site, and that the others handle different things like coding or business whoosamawhatsits. I think the other 'staff' members are just admins because its convenient and they already work for and represent the company.

But I could be totally off, and HuskyK9 is making bank.

Anyways, don't they have their secret meetings and stuff where they select new admins with the correct sacrifice when needed?

Wrong on literally every count in the admin team.
Tony, char and husky aren't paid, Dave is lead admin on f-list as well, but has a bunch of other stuff to do as well, varka is literally the guy who owns the site.

2 days nothing got done (had stuff to deal with 2 days ago, so only could do it yesterday), timezones are against me (meaning it was 2.5 days) and like a hundred FFD as well as deletions.

Like, seriously, there are so many reposts. Most are good (better versions) but they still take time to process.

Oh, and the stats page lists the average since creation, not the current daily number, we basically double in daily uploads each year.

Only if they have either a lamb or a virgin.

Who's virgin nowadays? It's a whole lot easier (and faster) to find a lamb

Well I knew about Varka, but he's still technically paid staff... He's just paid by himself :P Didnt know EDF was admin for F-list as well, that seems like it would be a bit rough. I'm surprised to hear Tony and Char aren't in paid positions though, isn't there an employee running the site's programming/coding/maintainence?

edit: also, I knew husky wasn't paid, was just joking about that one XD

Good morning, everyone.

It honestly doesn't matter who is paid or not. The administration and moderator staff is a volunteer position, and the "paid" staff are actually members of Dragonfruit. Dragonfruit is responsible for many tasks than span several websites and include printing and advertisements, they just also happen to help administrate e621.

Outside of that, we do have support staff from Bad Dragon that helps maintain things. You won't hear from them because they report to me.

This is honestly all you really needed to say. Not to be rude / blunt, but it's nobody's business who gets paid, whether it be paid, not paid, how much you get paid, nothing. If they get paid then they're paid to do something they were hired for and that's really all there is to it, so I don't see why it matters to everybody (in this thread, at least) who is being paid.

The only part that really matters relevant to the thread is that most of them don't get paid. Most people find it a lot harder to complain about volunteers than employees.

That being said, in reality it doesn't really matter either way, you're definitely right about that.

As well they should, these aren't employees that receive anything in return for their work.
It's volunteers doing what they can in their free time.
Everyone should respect their free time, and be glad they choose to spend some of it helping us out.

Nah, they're obviously just getting high off of their own power. Especially pickle.

I know you're joking. =) But since the thread's kind of serious, I will also say a bit more:
I mostly get high off of organization and seeing that things which need doing are actually getting done in a reasonable timeframe and to a reasonable standard. Tagging, tickets, approvals, aliases/implications, discussions, sourcing, wikis, FFD, records, answering questions, etc. It's all 24/7 and I can't be there all the time. But when I spend a few hours to get some of it done, and I can see the difference it makes to keep the site functional and take care of our users, then that's worth it to me. I won't lie, a paycheck would be nice. But some things have to be their own reward. And I get a boost out of taking care of the site I love.

This mentality is probably a big part of what makes this site one of the most functional boorus out there.

Naw, you guys are right, who is and isn't paid doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. It doesn't matter to me at all really, I was talking about it more as a simple curiosity instead of an important discussion. I didn't mean to get is started on that topic, my bad!

Because e621 moderation is a joyless, payless job that sucks all the fun out of you
just like literally EVERY other website moderator position
