I want to go through and check images that have or once had a certain tag, rather than only the ones that have it now. Is there a tag prefix to support this?

Not that I know of, but there is a page for it. Posts > Tag History (one of the links on the bar). It has a search option near the top that you can click to open. It potentially could be great, but there's a lot of wrinkles in how tag history works right now and so searching them doesn't work as well as one might wish. Still, it's better than nothing. At worst, you'll still be able to find a percentage of the tag history you're looking for (although I swear it returns incomplete results so I'm not sure it will return everything).
