Topic: Uploads are being taken / redirect to another user?

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Hey, just something I noticed but since I've been using Postybird to upload my work everywhere instantaneously, I've noticed quite a few of them do not show up in my uploads and instead are being uploaded by a different user at the exact same time

It isn't every post, but quite a few
Their uploads:
https://e621.net/posts?tags=user%3ANumeroth+dacad+
Mine:
https://e621.net/posts?tags=user%3ADacad+dacad+

Very strange, just noticed it just now when I posted this:
https://e621.net/posts/3566808
and it was instantly not even there but with completely different tags and the description missing.

Scraping bot? I have no clue.

Numeroth is not a bot, just a very... enthusiastic user that likes uploading things. The md5 matches the FA upload so he grabbed it from there in the time it took you to set up postybird to submit it to e621, too.

i dm'd Numeroth once about his posts not having many tags

he blocked me, then a year later dm'd me to call me greedy and a liar

Holy fuck lol

not trying to put an e6 user on the same level as that moon landing truther who went right up to buzz fucking aldrin's face and called him "a cowerd and a liar and a dueifff

but the "greedy and a liar" line really reminded me of that guy, and i think that's pretty funny

That's really funny, I guess I might either have to ask them to stop or change the order I post my works
I mean they themselves might not be a bot but they are definitely scrapping my FA and posting incredibly fast lmao
just a bit annoying i guess

Also wait, I checked my Logs on Postybird and found the exact URL?

You could request DNP/cDNP so that only you are allowed to post your work.

That's... Is that allowed for regular users?

We don't really have rules against it at the moment.
As long as the post is well-tagged on upload, that is.

That is actually not that unusual for Numeroth.
If this happens again, please report the message.

I don't exactly plan on poking Numeroth again, but I'll keep that in mind.

Upload sniping isn't allowed, though that's usually characterized by poor tagging and sourcing. Posting fast or first isn't normally a problem, but there does seem to be something fishy here.

What interests me is "I've been using Postybird to upload my work everywhere instantaneously", meaning Dacad is uploading posts to FA and e6 simultaneously. I don't see how a normal user can notice the upload at FA, then make a proper upload here before PostyBird itself completes the e6 upload. Not just once by chance or luck either, but something that's happened multiple times. Unless PostyBird is just that slow with the e6 upload, there has to be a bot involved to upload it here from FA before PostyBird finishes the upload here after FA (or the uploads happen so close together, the server gets confused about who did the upload, if that's a thing that can happen). In either case, if it's going to cause artists to go DNP/CDNP so that only they can post, it seems like behavior that should be heavily discouraged, as it would prevent us from posting other things that they didn't care or remember to post here. If an artist tends to upload here at the same time as elsewhere, give it a few minutes to ensure the upload to here isn't being just a bit slow.

... Ok now i'm actually interested in this guy, who ARE they?

There is something strange going on for sure... open an issue at https://github.com/mvdicarlo/postybirb-plus/issues and link to this thread. The developers can definitely would know if it's possible for someone to do this consistently. Looking at the code, there appears to be a logging system, so maybe it's been logged.

But I'll, do a little math here.

The image you posted is 2.22MB

Lets give the benefit of the doubt, and assume you have an extremely slow upload speed of just 5 Mbit/s, and that the uploads are uploaded sequentially. It would take 3.5 seconds to upload one image to one site. You uploaded to 5 sites, so it would take 17.5 seconds to completely upload the image to all of the sites.

(Note that realistically, if you have a standard broadband connection, your upload speed is going to be anywhere from twice as fast to ten times as fast as that, so it should take anywhere from 8.75 to 1.75 seconds to upload)

There is still a chance these are legitimate uploads... but I'm really having my doubts on this.

Edit: Someone should also check the source code more thoroughly, and check that building the application at the latest release commit 886daaa7b8f8c09a202d0704fa66f70d21a8c899 matches the built version on the website... just in case the dev is doing shenanigans (which I doubt, but it can't hurt to check...).

It's not an issue with PostyBirb.
There's nothing the developers can do about this.

It's possible that Numeroth got the image from Patreon, tagged it, and then had a script click the "Upload" button as soon as the post appeared on FurAffinity.

I also noticed some time ago that Numeroth uploads stuff incredibly fast and wondered if he was a bot too. From what I observed, he only targets most popular artists whose art get hundreds or thousands of upvotes and post their work to e6 usually within a minute after them. I'm not surprised if he outran PostyBirb.

@Dacad I recommend uploading to e6 first, then to the other websites.

Surely this part is an issue with PostyBirb?

Surely the e6 API is giving the failure response that the post already exists, but PostyBirb is failing to recognize it as an error condition and is just cheerfully reporting the location from the API's response as if it succeeded?

I honestly don't get the obsession some users have with being the first to upload someone else's art on e621.

I get my serotonin boost by waiting for someone to upload snipe, then coming in with a svats post that I got by asking the artist/commissioner beforehand.
