Topic: e621 unspoken "algorithm" [CHARACTER UPLOAD VENT]

Posted under Art Talk

Kinda how there are unspoken rules of anything on the internet. Or there be an etiqutte one knows that isn't common knowledge to others. E621 has its own setup that I notice and its sad to think about and I want to talk about it a little bit.
Honestly, it's not e621's fault at all; the site as a whole has nothing to do with it but rather it's US, the individuals.

E621 uploading is like YouTube, Twitter....well, any social media platform actually when it comes to the interests of all of us as individuals.
Which is why when a CHARACTER gets popular, a SURGE OF THEIR ART gets uploaded to the site. It's absolutely amazing that when people see such beautiful art of the character or OC they love gets uploaded by the masses.

But we are all FOOT SOLDIERS uploading art of the characters we love, right?
So I come to a realization that I've been sitting on for years being here.

When a character is out of the spotlight, when the BUZZ of them starts to die out. The art of the character stops getting uploaded. It's sad and it's the truth. We as individuals FIND and PUT the art here, it doesn't just magically show up.
The art is amazing and we should be thanking the artists who make these works of art for us to enjoy!
But none of the art gets uploaded to the site when there isn't AN UPLOADER DOING THE WORK FOR US!
We should be thanking the faithful uploaders (not literally) for taking time out of their lives as well to find these art pieces, tag them, and uploading them for us to enjoy.

BUT. When the CHARACTER isn't popular anymore...the character basically dies on e621...isn't that sad? Am I the only one? Aren't you disappointed when a character you like fizzles out and basically "dies" on e621?
It kinda sucks dude. But well...it is what it is...

a character can't stay popular forever...the faithful always strive to keep uploading the characters they love. but sometimes ONE FOOT SOLDIER just can't handle the task of constantly being the only ones to pay their tribute to uploading their favorite character or OC's art and they stop.

Again...it is what it is. Lemme know what YOU GUYS think will ya?

..............I wish there was more Tasque Manager art being uploaded as frequently as Meow Skulls right now. (at the time of writing this, Meow Skulls is still in the spotlight due to Fortnite's influence, but one day she will fade too) T_T

I'm bummed out bro, this epiphany of e6 art makes me sad. I made myself sad dude.

TL;DR for the squirrel brains out there, my bothers n' sisters

I'm sad that "the rage" of certain characters on e621 dies out because the HYPE for them that spurs from us as individuals fades out.
When THAT happens, the character or OC gets uploaded less and less till eventually even the last uploader "dies out"
It's a sad truth on e621 and I bummed myself out.

Outside influences influence THIS site greatly in what artwork and what characters/OCs we take in BULK.

and Im here CONSUMING as much of that shit I can before I gotta HUFF on fukin COPIUM

Is it even true that hype characters stop getting art? Let's look at some random popular characters of yesteryear:

Literally, the first four hype characters I checked still got art uploaded in the last day.

It may not help that a lot of uploaders have a weird sense of unwarranted self-importance when it comes to posting here. They focus on what has the highest demand and interest, thinking that the interest in the work somehow says something about them even though they're just posting something they found on the internet. Interest comes and goes both with uploaders posting and artists creating, but without that everything would just be Dr Comet and Karabiner r34.

you need to factor in WHY they persist. Also hype characters dont STOP getting art but gradually fade away in time.
one is zootopia, the other is a goat milf. The other is a cat pokemon
what they all have in common is an occult following which makes them special cases.
You didn't choose at random, you chose the ones you know.

the ones you don't remember that used to be popular are the ones that died out.

Popular characters are popular. If they weren't popular, they wouldn't have as much art made of them. Popularity also tends to wane over time as people get their fill, so once-popular characters become less popular over time, lose their mind-share, and have less art made of them. Not sure what else you'd expect.
