Topic: [REJECTED] Tag implication: the_final_fantasy_legend -> saga_(series)

Should be an alias, and further the "the" should be removed. Nobody is gonna search The Final Fantasy legend when most people dont even know the The is there just like how nobody is gonna search The Hyrule Fantasy instead of TLOZ

"The Final Fantasy Legend" is literally the name of a game, though. it's the name of the first game in the SaGa series after it was localized (and the second and third games with "II" and "III" appended to those). also, what?

That's simple enough to prevent. Just alias final_fantasy_legend to the_final_fantasy_legend.

The original title for Legend of Zelda, is Legend of Zelda: The Hyrule Fantasy. And we dont tag that single specific game nor others that carry the subtitle as such

Thatd be super reasonable except, Only the first game in the series has "the" in the title.

Im not trying to be aggressive or rude here just, stating that it should be an alias and that "the" is unnecessary

first of all: no, it's not. the japanese title of the game is "THE HYRULE FANTASY ゼルダの伝説" which roughly translates to The Hyrule Fantasy: The Legend of Zelda. but that's the Japanese title, no one outside of Japan ever called it that, what are you talking about? we're a western website, we use western titles for stuff when available and, in the west, the first game has always been called "The Legend of Zelda" and the series has always been called "The Legend of Zelda" (although it's occasionally shortened to just "Zelda"). if the first game in the series was called "The Hyrule Fantasy: The Legend of Zelda" in english, and we had a tag for that game then that tag would almost certainly be The_Hyrule_Fantasy.

???
the_legend_of_zelda, the_elder_scrolls, the_amazing_world_of_gumball, the_lion_king, a_link_to_the_past, a_hat_in_time
we don't truncate words off of titles for tags, what?

EDIT: also, I'm not sure I've ever heard someone call the series just "Legend of Zelda", or at least it's pretty uncommon. most of the time I've ever heard people talk about it I hear "The Legend of Zelda" or just "Zelda". sometimes I see the series abbreviated to "LoZ", but I think "TLoZ" is still much more common. it's much more common to truncate the articles off the titles of individual games, "Link to the Past" and "Wind Waker" are much more common than the "A Link to the Past" or "The Wind Waker", although, to be fair the series isn't exactly consistent on when the titles use articles in the first place.

My dude you have fucking tunnel vision.

The sequels don't have "the" in the name
It is literally that simple. Jfc.

I'm confused. Is this about not tagging single games, and/or grouping the first three games together as a distinct sub-series within saga_(series)? Before aliasing it to the SaGa tag anyway?

Im genuinely baffled myself.

This is a strange case bc w the exception of the basically human so they wouldnt be here anyway unique bosses in each game, all three games use the same enemy sprites with very little distinction between versions. Only FFL3 is unique really with both the first two games literally centering around a near identical world to world travel plot but still uses most of if not all of the same things.

I genuinely don't understand Darryus' argument that this is a tag for "the first game" when there isnt even enough to distinctivise between them. We don't typically do this for other games like this either, like, you see a moogle from the main line ff series and I dont see people tagging the specific version between FF4, 5 and 6 bc theyre so similar nobody except the most anal would even notice, let alone having the artist even know to begin with.

The argument is as absurdist as it is meaningless.

This should be an alias, to Saga_(series), not an implication because the english title isnt used anymore. Even in the west where we now have SaGa and its sister Romancing SaGa.

We don't call it Dragon Warrior anymore, it shouldn't be called Final Fantasy Legend.

This is clearly a cultural linguistic divide, and that may be true where you live but truncating "the" is extremely common in many parts of the world.

Regardless; Again.

I dont think this is for the single game and even if it WAS for the single game, its still incorrect using your own damn logic.

I'm not arguing that the_final_fantasy_legend shouldn't be aliased to saga_(series) I'm saying that your reasoning for removing "the" is nonsensical.

yeah, we don't call the game Dragon Warrior that anymore because it got re-released with the name Dragon Quest in 2014. if they never bothered working out the trademark issue and series continued to be called "Dragon Warrior", we'd tag the series dragon_warrior and we'd alias dragon_quest to that. I have no idea what you're even arguing for anymore.

I actually think this request is fine. It's the same logic as having separate Final Fantasy tags; each game takes place in a different world with a whole new set of characters and creatures and rules, so separate tags helps immensely with sorting. Granted, this series is much more niche, but we might as well be consistent (and who knows, always possible for the next SaGa game to create the latest furry bait)

Might there be a better disambiguation for this? saga_(series) is kind of vague when there's Saga the comic (unrelated) and potentially other Saga franchises too (though none of those seem to have been uploaded so far.)

We could make it saga (game series)
