Ok, been trying to gauge this tag since furry pickle brought them up ages ago, but I haven't been able to figure them out by just observing like I usually do. So, sorry for sounding foolish, but I have to ask, should I be tagging my uploads with this?

Yeah, a few of them don't have wikis yet (and this is one of them). Though this) page gives short run down of the main digital ones, and this page gives a short run down of most of the main traditional ones. Sorry it's not all put together yet, but it's getting there. The short answer, is that most of your art tends to be digital_media_(artwork). If that helps.

I guess, judging from current tagging, that this is supposed to cover digital media works that show visible 'paint' marks like there are in traditional painting?
It has a distinct 'feel' to it, at least, though as an artist it would often be a headache deciding whether it applies (eg - digital speedpaints have 'paint/brush marks', but they don't necessarily look anything like trad brush marks.)
On a different topic, isn't {digital_media} extremely undertagged? I would say that 90-95% of uploads are of digital media. Accounting for the fact that this proportion was lesser in previous years, as was the posting rate, I would expect at minimum 200,000 posts are digital_media, rather than the current tagging count of 7,400+.

Technically speaking, what I do COULD be considered digital painting, but it doesn't really look like a painting (aside from a couple of the backgrounds I've done I suppose.), so I wouldn't really want to tag it with that, even if that's what I'd call this on a resume. It's the main reason why I've been unsure as to what I should tag my stuff with. I'll hit everything up with digital_media though, as that's appliciable nearly 100% of the time. If a category ever turns up that you think might be more relevant let me know :P

This is the other reason I haven't been jumping to tag anything with these. Last I checked all the *(artwork) tags seem really underutilized, and I wasn't sure if that was just because they weren't being implamented yet, if very few people had started tagging them, or if there was some sort of plan I was unaware of. Should I start tagging posts with these "artwork genres" whenever I see the opportunity? Or should I wait till they're better defined?

I doubt I'll ever use those myself.
I'm no artist, and find it too difficult to tell the difference between digital and traditional. There's a lot of images under digital_media_(artwork) that I would've tagged as traditional, especially the doujinshi scans.

I've been focusing more on the traditional_media ones at the moment (mostly pencil, pen, colored pencil, and marker). At the very least this should help sort the digital ones out later.
@Tokaido I'd be hesitant to agree or disagree with calling your art digital paintings (for tagging purposes) because it's definitely a little harder to tell based solely on TWYS (even though you're obviously the best source as far as knowing how it was actually drawn). I'm leaving that one to pickle since I'm not as familiar with the digital tags (partly because they are much harder to figure out than traditional tags).
However, I do know that the digital_media_(artwork) tag is pretty much defined already and I don't have any doubts that it would apply to your art.

I'll admit too that this isn't a huge focus of mine. I've pretty much only used them with 3D art where there is no question how it was made, but my knowledge definitely falters here.
