Creature from mario bros, and its name even implies plant.

We have several piranha_plant pictures that are more cosplay than the actual species: post #564261 post #549669 post #511925 post #483442 post #483434 post #553969 and some flash animations.

Implicating a fictional video game species to a broad category of species gets complicated because all members of the species tend to look exactly identical, which makes them similar to character tags. koopa -> scalie is accepted and probably many others, so the implication does make sense. Technically it would add 11 arguably incorrect tags (due to cosplay), but it would also add 65 correct ones.

While I agree with you that there is cosplay and it does confuses the tagging system, remember that we still have lots of wolf, pikachu, etc. cosplay, but it doesn't prevent us from using them a species. There isn't just 1 piranha plant that we can name (such as a boss like Bowser).

Anyways, unless we are going to implement a species_cosplay tag system, it's probably better just to use the species name + cosplay/costume in most cases.
