Topic: [REJECTED] Tag alias: bat_penis -> chiropteran_penis

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

I still hate that we're using the chiropteran tag in the first place. All members of the Chiroptera order are bats. Why do we use common names for everything else but take this approach to a select few groups of animals for some reason??

Additionally, this was rejected before (topic #23557) with no explanation.

if i had more energy atm, i'd write up a BUR to reverse the alias

I was looking up just this tag (and other species-specific anatomical tags) just last night. It seems odd some results of *_penis and *_vagina show up in tag search. Yeah, the inconsistent naming I noticed, too.

I believe part of the reasoning for the genus/family/order naming logic was stuff like canines that include very similar species. Applying it to bats was just to follow that same pattern, but AFAIK, ALL Chiropterans are bats.

Ultimately, it would be best to let this one sit for the time being until the "chiropteran is swapped with bat_(species).:https://e621.net/forum_topics/36246 I agree they ought to be aliased together, but it's less work to wait a little rather than alias it now and then have to unalias and realias it later.

*joke about having to type less for chiropteran*
