I would expect one to have to post a bunch of pictures (something I can't do because I can't draw) but I wanted to check.

As per the help page:

When new mod positions open up, we will hand-pick users (who will almost certainly be contributors) based on their area of expertise (uploading, wiki editing, development, etc.).

I wouldn't get your hopes up if that's what you're aiming for, because it's pretty rare that anybody is promoted.

You don't actually have to be an artist to post here, in fact the majority of people who post here aren't. You can upload art from anybody who isn't on the avoid posting list, but it's preferable that you ask the artist for permission first.
