Just a heads up, I created a poem_in_description tag, and checked the posts currently tagged with poem to see which is applicable.

Only 63 posts with poems... I thought there would be more >~>

DubsTheFox — 17:52
I don't think this should be a tag. it's unrelated to the picture :thonk:

m3g4p0n1 — 17:53
   there's story_in_description, so...
I judged it would be fitting

DubsTheFox — 17:53
I mean... we have other tags like lol_comments but... that's also rather eh, in my opinion.
I don't know why these are accepted 🤷‍♂️

m3g4p0n1 — 17:54
I can see those being useful for people looking for funny stuff to meme about

DubsTheFox — 17:56
They are against TWYS. My best guess is, they are grandfathered. Just wait for other replies. I am just one guy with an opinion.

m3g4p0n1 — 17:57
   Okie dokie
On my understanding, they are on the same level of reasoning as lore tags
irrelevant to TWYS, but not hurtfull to have

Donovan DMC — 17:58
it looks like story_in_description is from 2020, and lol_comments is also from 2020
story_in_description was NMNY, lol_comments was Millcore
those seem more like the exception and not the rule

m3g4p0n1 —18:00
   Oh .3.

DubsTheFox — 18:00
   I am shocked :e6screm:

Donovan DMC — 18:00
   let me clarify
they were changed to meta tags by those two
   not necessarily created by them

DubsTheFox —18:01
   ah, I see.

Donovan DMC — 18:01
tags don't really carry creator information

m3g4p0n1 —18:01
first post added was 3 years go, I think

Donovan DMC — 18:01
   https://e621.net/tag_type_versions does, however

m3g4p0n1 — 18:01
   https://e621.net/post_versions?commit=Search&page=133&search%5Bexclude_uploads%5D=0&search%5Btags_added%5D=story_in_description
and it appears lol_comments was first added 12 years ago

Donovan DMC — 18:03
it goes beyond the numbered pages
post versions is just a special snowflake, and numbered pagination doesn't work after 10,000 entries

m3g4p0n1 — 18:05
Oh, so if there are more than 10k changes with this tag, no more than that will show up in search?

Donovan DMC — 18:05
   click the next down bottom
you've gotta use a/b pagination after 10,000 entries
so you can't just skip to the end
I can't be bothered to go down further
   https://e621.net/post_versions?page=b10000000&search[tags_added]=story_in_description
but that's at least 7 years ago
so it looks like the grandfathered in theory is likely
   found the last page

   I... think I understand,

Well, only 8 posts fit the poem_in_description, so it's easy to undo. I will wait an admin to confirm if the tag is valid or not though.

Meta tags don’t always need to follow TWYS
many of them already don’t… year tags, for example, or BVAS

Donovan DMC — 04:02
meta is probably more often than not outside of tag what you see

scaliespe — 04:02
   IMO poem_in_description is perfectly fine

Donovan DMC — 04:02
creating similar tags because existing tags exist isn't necessarily a good thing
what functional use would the tag really have

scaliespe — 04:03
Maybe not, but I don’t see it being an issue either

Donovan DMC — 04:03
I just see it as something that will be underused and not really help anyone

scaliespe — 04:04
I imagine furry poetry is pretty rare regardless

DubsTheFox — 04:07
Feel free to use it. But be aware that tags could be invalidated, if they are seen as useless.

I can see poem_in_description as being useful, in that the description is the place where one can put the artist's mentions of what inspired them to create a picture. It's like story_in_description in that it points out there's extra context to a picture that a viewer may want to specifically look for.
Of course, since it's not TWYS, it doesn't belong in the general category. It would need to be switched over to meta.
Lore is another possibility, although those tags are for things that "correct" or describe something in the picture itself that is known rather than seen.
At least, that's my interpretation, which could easily be totally screwy.
At the very least, slap it up on the forums and see how it goes over.
We could probably get some better arguments for or against poem_in_description.

So, summing up the discussion, I created this new poem_in_description tag, which I saw is not applicable to many posts.
Some users were against this tag, and some users were indifferent.

Tag goes against Tag What You See.

I judged that, while not currently super useful, it may be useful at some point, and in my opinion, is on par with story_in_description and lore tags.

  • Should it stay?
  • Should it get Invalidated?
  • What are your opinions on this tag?

I don't think the fact that it goes against TWYS is a big deal. It's pretty much the same thing as the meta tag story_in_description. My main concern is how much use it would get.

As of now, in the long time the site has been up, there are only 63 posts with the poem tag. So either some forgot to tag this, or there simply is not much interest in poetry among furries.

So I agree, it's not going to have much use for your usual person in the foreseeable future, but isn't that the reason we have so many tags to detail what is going on in a post? To organize, and ease the searchability of any oddly-specific content someone feels appealed to, despite being super niche or not?

I, for instace, grew a temporary interest in this topic in the last days. But whilst searching for poem, some posts that visually lacked a poem appeared in the results, why was that? Because they had a poem_in_description, but there was no tag for that.

I may be over dramatizing it a bit though, sorry about that.
