Y'all, this has bothered me for a long time and I've been silently trying to fix it for years but posts keep getting mistagged, so I will do a short PSA. One quick look at the search and I already see a bunch of mistagged posts.

What's A Handjob?

When a character(s) is using their hand(s) to pleasure another character(s) penis, that is a handjob, and should not be tagged with penile_masturbation.

Example: In this post, a female character is pleasuring two male characters' penises, which is correctly tagged with handjob (Extra credit for correctly tagging double_handjob. Kudos to the uploader)

What's Penile Masturbation?

When a character(s) is using their OWN hand(s) or other appendages to pleasure their OWN penis, that is penile_masturbation, and should not be tagged with handjob.

Example: In this post, this stronk bull dude is masturbating his penis with his hand, which is correctly tagged with penile_masturbation.

Let's get more complicated

Handjob AND Penile Masturbation at the same time???

A post can be tagged with both as long as it is visible in the image and appropriate. One character has to be masturbating their own penis while giving the other character a handjob. Here are a few examples that are correctly tagged:

Why were they wrong?
1st post: Mr. Stallion guy is giving handjobs to two dudes while penetrating another. There is no penile masturbation in the image.
2nd post: Dude is masturbating his own penis and anus. There is no handjob present in the image. (In fact, handjobs should NEVER be tagged in solo images! The only way I can see a solo post getting a handjob tag is if the post has a disembodied_hand or something of that nature. But according to the wiki, disembodied hands count as a separate character so that's off the table.)
3rd post: The female character is giving the male a handjob. There is no penile masturbation present in the image.

Now let's talk about the other tag issue...

Mutual Masturbation

Gotta be honest, I really dislike how the mutual_masturbation tag is being utilized because it's used to tag two characters giving each other a handjob and implying that it's masturbation by it's name when it's not. Even the provided wiki acknowledges that.

These are true mutual_masturbation. Two characters masturbating their OWN stuff with their OWN appendages together.

Suggested solution: Many of the posts tagged with mutual_masturbation should be tagged with mutual_handjob and other mutual-specific tags instead. Those tags is massively undertagged and accurately describe what is seen in the image. This issue was touched upon 7 years ago (man, time flies by quick) and I personally find EarthFurst2's thoughts on it very interesting. Let's start using mutual-specific tags.

Do I expect tagging to be perfect? Of course not, mistags are always present and most are either ignored or go unnoticed. Do I expect everyone to pitch in? Heck no. No one here is obligated to participate. What do I want to accomplish with this PSA? To get the word out about this common mistagging and let users know about it, hence why it's a PSA. Like I've said, I've been silently and casually chipping away at these mistags for years whenever I have free time (much less free time than before, really). Would be a whole lot helpful if more folks know about it and help out on their own time as well.

Tags are important, yo. They help us find the posts that we want to search for and ✨enhance✨ our experience with the site. It's why I've been fixing and adding tags on this site for over a decade. Only you can prevent wildfires mistagging.

I feel like a clarification in the tag itself might be useful, like holding_own_penis or grabing_another_penis, but that might be a bit of a mouthful of an alias. But, now i know atleast.

I think some of the confusion is that some dictionaries (like dictionary.com and google's info box) give a secondary definition of masturbate that involves sexually stimulating another person. They may be going off of that (or their local use of language that leads the dictionaries to continue to have that definition), not realizing e6's tag is specific to the more common definition.

At a first glance, "mutual_masturbation" does sound like two folks giving each other a handjob.

Maybe "masturbating_together" would be a better tag?

No, mutual_masturbation IS for two dudes giving each other a handjob, etc. For masturbating together, the tag is group_masturbation, which is also a rather misleading name, since it can be for only two characters rather than a "group", though this hasn't really caused confusion. The misleading name (group_masturbation) is admittedly my fault--many, many years ago it only had 3 posts until I started mass-tagging it and gave it a wiki, and it caught on. I wouldn't be opposed to renaming it, if needed.

If that’s the case then that’s truly tragic. Looking up Google’s definition of masturbation, it says "stimulation of the genitals with the hand for sexual pleasure", but if we’re being technical, it’s possible to masturbate without the use of hands. Same with their definition of handjob; "an act of male masturbation, especially as performed on a man by someone else". And what makes it more confusing is that other sources like Wikipedia contradict that definition by explicitly saying that a handjob is an act to do onto others, and not to oneself. So I guess there is an overall issue on how to come to a clear consensus to define what is masturbation. Idk, might be digging too deep into that and I honestly don’t have enough energy to dig further.

I know I’m not the only that finds it a bit odd if someone tells me "I’m gonna masturbate you". That just sounds like a misnomer to me. IMO, the official definitions needs some updates.
