Topic: Scam Artist Alert: Quadropes

Posted under Art Talk

Evidenced by posts and others who threw money his way. Details are given by a user named Moroze here (https://e621.net/posts/3932917?q=quadropes) but I'm going to copy and paste his message for all to see. The reason is because scammers like this never stay dark for too long, eventually he will be back with a new profile to entice more victims to throw money at him:

Far as I know (Mostly hearsay but partly his own posts) you won't find him anywhere else. He's deleted every trace of himself he can.

Apparently he faked a crisis with his lucrative job that supposedly fired him over his hobby of drawing porn. He used that to drum up support and kindness in the community and go "Full-time artist" before accepting every single donation and commission he could while offering discounts and some sort of quick and easy sketch commission sheet with 50-ish slots each 100$ usd. Once he had the cash he conned out of everyone (So anywhere from 5k-10k I'd wager from that commission sheet) he shut down his FA, blocked anyone from socials and went dark.
From what I heard there were some red flags. Like his paypal email being a "throwaway" account.

So I spose he was a con artist all along. Buyer beware and don't jump to help every sob on the net I guess. Which is too bad cause I liked his stuff.

Source: 5 friends who in total lost around 2k. And his own posts as I followed him before he ran off.

I'm also one of the dummies who fed into his bullshit and now I'm down 200 bucks.

He was the first person I ever commissioned, gave me the confidence to try trusting other artists as well. Turns out he was a scumbag all along... Can't believe it.

I'd suggest Artists Beware rather than posting it here on the forums

Thank you for the advice, but since the scumbag in question completely deleted their online presence it's just more likely they will pop up again with a new profile once things have died down.

So in other words your warning isn't too helpful?

What did the police say when you filed the fraud report? How fast did Paypal refund your money? I think posting the steps you took to do those things would help the next people who get scammed.

I didn't know what to do. Quadropes was the first person I trusted into doing a commission for me, I thought I could at least. So thanks for being a jerk dude, glad you were just as helpful about this as I wasn't sadly. ๐Ÿ˜’
Sorry, I geuss this post is pretty pointless at this point. Anyone know how I can delete it?

It doesn't matter if the email account is a throwaway account or not. It ends up being linked to a real bank account. Skim over the Paypal terms of service and request a refund for undelivered goods following their procedure for doing so. I don't know the exact details, but I do know you can claw back your money months after the initial transaction. If Paypal gives you trouble, you can show them a police report and that'll make it easier to get your money back. Filing a false police report is illegal so they take a police report as the truth. Since you have 5 people claiming the same thing, it should be easier than doing it alone. If you get everyone on that commission list to report the account for fraud, you'll likely get Paypal to ban the artist's associated bank account and any new accounts with the same contact details. With 10k at stake, you might even be able to get the police (probably FBI since it's interstate wire fraud and likely tax evasion) to do some investigation. Read your credit card or bank account terms as well. If Paypal isn't playing nice you also have a chance of reversing the transaction from where your money came from (never store funds in Paypal. They can and do randomly steal it from users). However the time frames for your bank or credit card are normally different from Paypal, so you need to be aware of their deadlines.

If you're not in the USA, translate the above into your country. You might have stronger protections or weaker protections. Either way, the first step is to print (to PDF) copies of all the messages/profiles/posts/etc... from the artist and all your related account transactions. This is so you don't lose the proof. The second step is to read the related terms of service. Continue on from there.

Your post isn't spam. Please don't delete it. At the very least it lets people know why Quadropes disappeared and is a reminder that scammers exist.
