On the one hand all the [color]_nails currently imply colored_nails which implies nails and colored_fingernails/colored_toenails already exist and imply fingernails/toenails
On the other hand iirc there was a conversation about how colored_nails is meant to be for like, nail polish, but in furry art often a character's nails or claws will just naturally be like that. I'm struggling to find the forum post though

Being able to tell if something is colored naturally or with nail polish is going to be near impossibly by TWYS standards, unless the actual act of painting_nails is present, which has its own tag anyway. I maybe wouldn't mind implying some of these to colored_fingernails/colored_toenails but then we'd have to decide which colors are natural and which ones are "colored"

I'm a little concerned how often [color]_toenails seems to be used for claws instead of nails too.

A character can have orange nails/claws and also an orange body, making their orange_nails not colored_nails. I think [color]_nails should directly imply nails (and *_claws implying claws) and then colored_nails is added in addition if the nail color is different from the body color

Those tags should probably not implicate colored_fingernails because the wiki explicitly states that the fingernails need to be painted and those other tags do not have that limitation. I think the colored_fingernails tag is kinda useless in that sense anyway because it is going to be hard to discern whether a fingernail has been painted or not and the tag seems even more pointless if it applied to all fingernails that can be tagged with a color. On top of that there also is no such implication on any of the [color]_fur tags implicating colored_fur as they only implicate fur and their respective [color]_body tag. So these tags should probably only implicate fingernails and their respective [color]_nails tag.

That seems unintuitive. Typical white nails would then be classified as colored_nails when a character has a non-white body color, which would be almost all the time. Green nails would not be colored_nails if the character has green scales, but would if they have brown fur.

It also seems people are mixing up nails and claws.

My logic was that a character with orange body and also orange hands wouldn't be tagged with orange_hands, because they have the same color.
I applied this logic to nails, because naturally they are translucent and more or less body colored (picture of exposed nailbed ).

I was wondering if it's too convoluted for people who aren't into reading wiki pages, so if even you say it's unintuitive, then it probably is (original BUR reverted).

Well you could've easily searched for colored nails of all color at once, without having to list every color. I guess that could still be done, just have to tag colored_fingernails manually first.

What i meant is that if all fingernails get tagged with their colour, colored_fingernails would essentially be the same as just fingernails and would return the exact same results. Also people will gladly add 20 different black_[bodypart] tags to a completely black character, so if all of those tags got their own colored_[bodypart] tags as well it would only bloat the amount of colour related tags on posts even more.
