Topic: Is Poipiku/Privatter ok to upload?

Posted under General

Some art is uploaded by artists mainly on poipiku and privatter. This is often to have a way to separate explicit work to not appear on the Twitter profile. A lot of artists post a teaser on Twitter and a direct link to the explicit work on these websites.

Some of these posts only check if you follow the Twitter account before showing the picture. Others ask to put a password (which often is to check if you are a adult, and the password is "yes").

Are these cases ok to upload, or it could be considered a type of "paywall"? (even though it doesnt cost money)

If the artist has publicly shared the password to access the content, that's public content IMO. Even more so if the password is just "yes" to confirm you're an adult. People used to do it a lot (might still do?) where passworded content would be uploaded to file sharing websites so the hosting provider doesn't know what's inside the zip - but the artist would share the password along with the link so anybody could easily open the file.

Requiring you to be a follower however, seems a little more dubious. Even if it's free to follow them on Twitter, it's not exactly public content anymore. If it was posted here, it would possibly be depriving them of the followers, since they would need to sign up and follow them to access the exclusive content. That's something that's taken into consideration with webcomics, despite being freely accessible on the Internet the ones that have dedicated websites with monetisation can't be mirrored here to not deprive them of their monetisation income. Pay-what-you-want content that can be "bought" for $0.00 is also DNP for the first 2 months for similar reasons. A follower doesn't exactly equate to income, though.

I'd personally want an admin to decide whether it's acceptable or not before I posted anything like that. I don't like taking risks.

You can just ask the artists directly ๐Ÿ˜… They don't bite!
A lot of artists don't like their work being reuploaded without getting their permission, but as long as you ask first, then they're fine with it.

I remember a ton having quizes of sort, especially in Japanese. You'd need the password to get past the 'puzzlewall'.

Yeah, nothing like sites that block 'guests' from accessing NSFW content. More like if an artist required you to be on Friends list of FA/Discord invite/and so on?
