Topic: [APPROVED] Tag alias: degrees_of_kemono -> furry_scale

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #62846 degrees_of_kemono -> furry_scale has been approved.

Reason: Both tags degrees_of_kemono and furry_scale are for a meme about what can be considered a "Sliding Scale of Anthropomorphism" - a range in how humanoid or feral a furry character can be.

Suggesting that furry_scale be made the aliased-to tag because:

  • "furry" is more encompassing than "kemono" ("a specific style of anthropomorphic art" - Wiki page)
  • what "furry" means may be more readily known to an e621 user before they know what "kemono" means
  • the only other place I can find this being referred to as degrees_of_kemono is a single post on ATFBooru
  • this meme is listed on KnowYourMeme as Furry Scale

EDIT: The tag alias degrees_of_kemono -> furry_scale (forum #367389) has been approved by @gattonero2001.

the the title of the origination of the ''Degrees of Kemono'' meme is "ケモ度の階段をのぼろう!!" which can roughly be translated to "Degrees of Kemono, Let's Climb the Stairs!!"

Huh, so there was a tag for this all along. I wrote the furry_scale wiki page a while back, after I tried to add it to an image and was surprised to see no other results. But it wouldn't let me change it to a copyright tag either, so I checked the changelog and found that it had been previously added to two other posts, but removed for unknown reasons. I tried but failed to find the image linked above, despite being sure it must have been uploaded here at some point.

I definitely think furry_scale is a better name for this. I've literally never heard degrees_of_kemono used anywhere, whereas furry_scale is both more widely-known and barely any less of a literal translation.

I feel like we might want to keep degrees_of_kemono but have it apply specifically to the character(s?) featured in that original image.

If you want a character tag, just make a character tag.
