Topic: staggered_grid and staggered_grid_layout

Posted under General

So I just came across these two tags, staggered_grid and staggered_grid_layout. The creator of the tags said this: "If a tag format ends in _layout, it applies to the entire image. If it ends with _(layout), it means it could apply any part of an image. If it has neither, it's like _(layout)"

This seems... not ideal to me. It's extremely confusing, even if the wikis clarified (which they currently don't seem to). I'm not sure what to do about it though. Could they be renamed to be more clear? Or should they just be aliased?
There are a ton of other tags like this too, all made by this one person, who seems to intentionally avoid publicly discussing the tags out of fear of feedback.

Staggered grid is a much more broad concept. Whenever you see the layout suffix, it means it is a type of layout. That's all.

All staggered grid means is that there is a grid of offset units in an image in some configuration. It's not a type of layout, but a part of a layout. You cannot call it a layout, and there was a need to describe both concepts hence the distinction. I hope this clears things up.

There not so much of a chance to make it any more clear as there isn't a good way to describe part of a layout, versus a type of layout.

The bulk update request #5171 has been rejected.

create implication staggered_grid_layout (9) -> staggered_grid (10)

Reason: I can't think of any better names myself, so if these are indeed the best possible names, then all images with a fully staggered grid layout include a staggered grid. Right?

EDIT: The bulk update request #5171 (forum #370061) has been rejected by @slyroon.

Honestly, this doesn't seem like a very necessary tag.

Hahaha I didn't wanna say it but yeahhh

I wouldn't mind keeping it around personally I guess, just since it doesn't hurt anything and very niche tags can be useful for finding particular images sometimes... but I also wouldn't be sad to see it go really

I see some value in keeping staggering_(layout), it is a notable visual element.
