I see it is an artist, yet it seems to be added to a lot of images as if it was a character?

Image obviously done by Barraqda, the character depicted is Purgy, but matthewbrandon is added.

Artist is Dreamweaver4121, Purgy is not present, yet matthewbrandon is identified again.

If Matthewbrandon is the creator of Purgy as a character I can understand having it added to images where Purgy applies, but the ones without Purgy at all are confusing me.

matthewbrandon is the owner of purgy

But as i can see by looking at the source, some if not all images he is tagged on, is his commissions.

he shouldn't be tagged as an artist just because he owns a character.

If matthewbrandon is being added to images where they are the commissioner of or have one of their characters in said image, I'd change it to a copyright tag.
