Topic: File deletion on post 610916 and one other

Posted under General

Right, so is it my fault if my pics I upload get's flagged?

I only uploaded those pics because, http://iqdb.harry.lu/ told me there was no matchs. - I did another search with ^^ and it only found my pic, not the one that is in the flag message...

So is it my fault or not? - Is there a "it is your own risk to upload photos that don't show up in http://iqdb.harry.lu/"?

Always also check the improbable matches. For instance, it looks like your uploads were cropped versions (with erased site url). So for instance, post #610926 was only 39% match.

Well, I'm one uploader that doesn't use this site tool. And yeah, it's a risk when the pic don't show up.

post #610916 is smaller than the other one so it didn't detect the other one because of the size difference. So that's the problem.

Here's some tips I should give you when uploading stuff,

*Know the artist

When uploading art, you should know who drew it. Don't upload random stuff you see as the artist may not want their art being posted without their knowledge. Check the DNP List for artists that don't want their art posted here.

*Get to the Source

If you know the artist, search for where the artist normally commission their artworks. Sites like Furaffinity , SoFurry , InkBunny and Weasyl are the ideal sites where you can call the "artist's home" while sites like e621 , Rule #34 & Xbooru are NOT to be considered the source as they are just image boards.

Get to the artist's own post to get the best & original artwork, and not those that are cropped, re-sized(like post #610916) or edited.

*Get Permission

It's important to get the permission from the artist. This would inform them that their art would be posted elsewhere and who would be posting it. If the artist DOESN'T know that people are posting his/her art in here, they may request all of them to be taken down(deleted) which wouldn't be good.

*Check e6 for artist and existing posts

Go to Google and search for "<artist's name> e621" and see if their name does show up. If yes, it means the artist has their art already featured here. Visually check the artist page and see if the post you wanted to upload already exist or not. If no, then you are lucky and be the first to ever post their art here.

*Upload

Well, you already know how to do this. Be sure to properly tag them and.. Good Luck!

Posts get deleted for several reasons. Sometimes you can even post a perfectly legitimate image and get deleted because the author decided to release a higher version later.

If you think that your upload limit has been unfairly reduced, just talk to an Admin and they can reset your limit.

I DID NOT crop the image myself, it was already like that on Google Images

google is not really a place where you should get the art you post. post it from art sites so you will have proper source, you know the artist and you can have the artist's permission to post the picture.

I usually search if there's already arts from the artist on the site, if they are here by a long time it might be that they are ok with them here (not always true), i search for the artist's page + characters Owner's pages to see if they are OK with people putting they art/fursonas on another site, if the artist doesn't have any art here i usually ask if i can post their art here, if there's a big bold letters on the bottom of the description DON'T USE WITHOUT MY CONSENT , i usually don't even try to ask for permission because its probably something personal.

I also do a http://iqdb.harry.lu search if no matches appear i search for the artist's name on e621 itself to see if the picture hasn't been uploaded since the image search updates hourly.

up to now, most of my deleted posts were some when i started uploading and were on resized res, 1 was a screencap which i downloaded an youtube video and converted a specific part as a GIF, and 1 was a takedown by a character owner that didn't specify anything on his page when i did the search although i had asked the artist first (i still feel like a douchebag for posting something if someone deems so personal that it can't be shared)

I'm always posting Unknown artist pics though

That really shouldn't be the goal. Art is made by someone and they should get the credit for it. You should really do everything you can to find out the source before posting.

That's not to say you *can't* post stuff without knowing the artist, but you should at least try to find out who/where it's originally from.

Finding the original source also helps avoid the deletes due to your version being a smaller/cropped one as well. (As others have said.)

Can't it also happen that the artist on the site you got it from might have a different name than here on e621, so that would also encounter a bad upload-point-drop

I'm curious; Why don't you? What method are you using? From what I can tell, e621 image search is the most efficient way of checking to see if an image has been uploaded, especially if it lacks an artist tag or source.

TBH, I never used it once.

Nowadays I just keep the artists' latest posts up-to-date on e621. I mostly post their newest artwork. Like that, I can just check the first page on the artist in one glance to see if someone has uploaded it yet. Latest artwork posted will always appear on the first page(unlike old ones).

When I upload stuff, I would get the source link of their art and directly paste it in the source bar and will automatically be downloaded by e6. This would guarantee you the image is original & unbroken. Then I would spend some time tagging every tag suitable for the post before finally uploading.

IF someone were to have already uploaded it or if the post wasn't tagged with the artist's name, e6 would then redirect me to the existing post and add all my tags to it.

So your upload would just turn into an edit, you won't lose anything.

Of my 580 uploads I did, only 6 were flagged as smaller versions, 3 of which were flagged by myself when I did a mistake on the upload.

But I do say, if I were to upload an old artwork by an artist, I would use the tool.

That's a fairly rare case, but yes it's possible (and has happened to me). However, the people who use and run this site are pretty good about catching when a lot of artists change their names and aliasing old ones to the new one.

Doing a quick e621 search for pictures like the one you plan to upload can help find those as well. (Reverse google image search quite often will return e621 links for images already here as well - though you may have to check 2nd or 3rd page of results to find them.)
