If its the same artist with different aliases
Ask them before hand if they wanted this change or not
Some artists even here on e621 like to have different aliases for personal reasons of for change of content or something else
The reason can be anything
Just go ask the artist

I don't believe that to be the case since they didn't change twitter accounts but just changed their name (daflummify's twitter source links lead to the secretcorgii account)
It is true that artists will often use another online alias to separate different types of artwork but I think this is just a simple name change

An alias request doesn't need a mass update. The alias will automatically update existing posts, making the mass update redundant.

You should be able to edit the BUR (click the bulk update request #5304 link, and there should be an option to edit it) and can simply remove the update line from there.
