Topic: [REJECTED] Tag alias: 3:7 -> 9:21

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #63744 3:7 -> 9:21 has been rejected.

Reason: "3:7" and "9:21" are the EXACT same ratio, mathematically.
It doesn't matter too much whether A aliases to B, or B aliases to A, but all that matters is that these two get merged together, so that if someone's looking for this ratio, they'll be led to the correct place.

Sorta like in topic #28114, where 7:3 was aliased to 21:9.

EDIT: The tag alias 3:7 -> 9:21 (forum #375065) has been rejected by @proriruryeet.

i personally think that ratio tags should be in their simplest forms, i.e, reverse the alias.

Aliasing it this way would be consistent, but I feel it should be in simplest form, as cutefox123 said. Reverse both of the aliases.

I went through all the meta aspect ratio tags and found only 16:10, 10:16 (and the tags mentioned) which violated the trend of simplest form. (Keep in mind I only did a cursory glance, might've missed 1 or 2)

The ones that violate it are because they're closely related to the 16:9 tag.

Though I feel the ones given the green light to violate the rule seems arbitrary, shouldn't 4:3 be aliased to 16:12, 5:3 to 15:9 (just off by 1, like how 16:10 is off by 1), and so on?

My proposal:
unalias 7:3 -> 21:9
unalias 5:8 -> 10:16
alias 9:21 -> 3:7
unalias 19.5:9 -> 39:18
unalias 9:19.5 -> 18:39

alias 16:10 -> 8:5

alias 21:9 -> 7:3
category 7:3 -> meta
alias 10:16 -> 5:8
alias 39:18 -> 13:6
alias 18:39 -> 6:13
alias 19.5:9 -> 13:6
alias 9:19.5 -> 6:13

Edit:Missed aliases added

alias 21:9 -> 7:3
alias 10:16 -> 5:8

Ooh, also, there's two missing from your list in your proposal: 18:39 should be aliased to 6:13, and 39:18 should be aliased to 13:6.

Like, I only wrote it as "3:7 could be aliased to 9:21" since there were simply more posts in the latter, but I totally agree that ratio tags should be in their simplest form honestly.
The only ones I'm neutral about "whether it's in the simplest form" are 10:16 (5:8) and 16:10 (8:5) — those two probably need their own separate discussion at a later time. Like I'm neutral on those two, but other than those I STRONGLY, STRONGLY believe that 9:21, 21:9, 18:39, and 39:18 (and possibly 10:16 and 16:10) should be moved to their simplest form.

Okay, I'm self-rejecting the original proposal because I totally agree that the ratios should be in their lowest simplest form. Working on BUR-ing the 9:21 posts to 3:7.

The bulk update request #5764 is active.

remove alias 7:3 (251) -> 21:9 (0)
remove alias 5:8 (7994) -> 10:16 (958)
create alias 9:21 (0) -> 3:7 (0)
remove alias 19.5:9 (2) -> 39:18 (0)
remove alias 9:19.5 (3) -> 18:39 (0)

Followed by:
alias 16:10 -> 8:5
alias 21:9 -> 7:3
category 7:3 -> meta
alias 10:16 -> 5:8
alias 39:18 -> 13:6
alias 18:39 -> 6:13
alias 19.5:9 -> 13:6
alias 9:19.5 -> 6:13
