Topic: Tag implication: looking_aside -> looking_away

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag implication #51898 looking_aside -> looking_away is pending approval.

Reason: looking_aside is utilized when subjects are looking left or right, both of which are two older tags (looking_left and looking_right) that have been aliased to looking_away. Looking_away's description states that it's for, "...where a character's body is facing one way, however their head/eyes is looking at another direction", acting as an umbrella term for any scenario where subject is looking in a direction other than forward.

Having both tags separate leads me to believe that looking_away is meant for subjects actively looking at something, while looking_aside is for subjects looking passively at nothing. If this is the case then it makes both tags subjective, since it can be unclear in some cases whether the subject is looking at something or nothing.

Unless looking_aside is meant to be mutually exclusive from looking_away for some reason, I think it makes sense to implicate it for clarity.

On the other hand, aliasing the tag has efficiency benefits and I personally think it makes more sense. Because looking_away has already adopted the roles of looking_left and looking_right, it could completely absorb looking_aside since the meanings are already implied to be the same.
