Topic: I Feel Like The Sound Tag Is Being Abused

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I am someone who keeps up on e621 posts mainly through the sound tag, as I find soundless stuff to be less appealing unless it really clicks with me. However, I feel like recently the sound tag is being abused. Videos that literally only have a second or two of sound, whether as a sting for an animators intro or a "fooni moment" at the end, are being placed under the sound tag, and thus videos that are actually soundless in content keep popping up under the sound tag. Am I the only one that feels this way? Is it possible to have a tag for stuff that only has a sound effect or two in a video to separate it from videos that actually have sound throughout it? Or is this an irritation I just kind of have to deal with? It's okay, you can tell me off if needed. It's just something I feel like I needed to bring up.

You can search voice_acted for content that has actually been voice acted, but I don't know if there's any sounds for stuff that just has sound effects (sound_effects is solely for sound effects that are visible in text)

I'd rather tag all instances of sound, no matter how brief, so as to not catch anyone off-guard.

Technically even a millisecond of sound is still sound, so by that idea yeah, and I'd do the same. Tag sounded things as sounded and non as non.
It be great if all things were tagged like that... maybe I can catch up on some and tag such posts as such if I have any time available soon.

Tag minimal_sound where applicable, and imply it to sound. That seems to me to cover all bases.

I'd prefer short_sound, since it more clearly communicates it's for sound that is short (relative to the length of the video). minimal_sound can be inferred to be either quiet or sparse but covers the length of the video instead of a short clip at the beginning or end.

Feels like that would be better served by ambient sound?

Maybe, but that won't stop people being confused by ambiguous names. And there's the more general issue that sound tags can be confused for being text sfx or audio on videos.

While that COULD be a work around, I'm someone who's into feral content, including pokemon. Plus, there's stuff where even if it's sound effect sex noises, it's still good to watch and listen to, so voice_acted is SEVERELY going to cut off a lot of stuff that I might want to watch.
