A few problems with this.

I would rather use a common name instead of a taxonomic name where an unambiguous common name exists. In this case, blue_dragon_slug is an unambiguous and more commonly known name for this species.

Secondly, Glaucus forms a species complex. Since all 5 of these species look virtually identical, we generally can't say with any certainty whether a given post depicts Glaucus atlanticus or Glaucus marginatus or Glaucus mcfarlanei or one of the others. Also, they are all generally referred to as blue sea dragons or blue dragon slugs.

I agree that it's best to alias to blue_dragon_slug. Most species in the Glaucus genus were thought to be Glaucus atlanticus until researchers examined their DNA and realized there were multiple species being lumped together.

Given the nature of the site, I think blue_sea_dragon blue_dragon_slug would be prone to misuse by blue dragon or blue dragon/slug hybrid characters, so the taxonomic name would work better as a disambiguation in this instance.

I think it would be pretty specific and unlikely for someone to come up with a hybrid of a blue dragon with a slug, and then use the blue dragon slug tag for it. Dragon_slug as a tag/someone's hybrid? Sure that might happen, but having a color would make a collision less likely

It's not the strangest hybrid someone could make and try to tag. And blue_sea_dragon is certainly a more likely case of being used for a blue aquatic_dragon.

What would be the alternative? just glaucus, perhaps? glaucus_atlanticus doesn't really work for the reasons I've mentioned earlier.
Alternatively, might blue_dragon_sea_slug be hyper-specific enough to avoid collisions?

edit: I'll just approve so that the tag isn't left hanging, we can change it later if it turns out to be an issue
