A phrase indicating the end of a serial installment, especially to set up a cliffhanger. For this site, it's used at the end of some comics,sometimes jokingly for false cliffhangers (in other words, it will not be continued).

The meme can be used where this isn't the case. to_be_continued is essentially the end page of a chapter of a comic, that may or may not continue. The meme can be used on one-shot (non-serial) comic pages, or even non-comics, and can use different phrases while still being a clear reference to the meme.

On second thought, as they have only partial overlap (sometimes the meme is used for comedic cutoff with no actual continuation) this suggestion doesn't make much sense...
