Cyan and teal are different. Teal is a distinctly dark shade of cyan and wouldn't apply to brighter shades of cyan. Other cyan things are aliased to blue.

other cyan things have been aliased to blue since before the creation of the teal color tags. as of now blue is no longer the closest canon color to cyan, teal is.

I'd say blue is still closer to cyan in most cases. Especially since we have teal color tags, if someone tries to tag cyan, it would be because it's not teal. Cyan is used for a bright blueish color, which it's better to substitute blue instead of teal (as teal is perceived as more dim greenish shade, vs cyan being perceived as more bright blueish shade).

cyan and teal are the same hue, though, one's just darker than the other. they're both the in the exact middle point between pure green and pure blue, they're basically synonyms. the Wikipedia page for teal even says:
The word is often used colloquially to refer to shades of cyan in general.

I mean, yeah, I guess? but that's true for all of the aliased away color tags, generally we alias them to the closest available canon color violet -> purple, scarlet -> red, emerald -> green, etc. and for a long time the closeat canon color to cyan was blue, now it's teal.

um no cyan is not teal. Teal is not cyan. Cyan is bluer than teal.

I'm going to fucking scream if I have to have this goddamned arguement over again.
whatever.
it doesn't even matter if cyan is "bluer" than teal (which it, by definition, isn't because they're the same hue) cyan is still miles closer to teal than it is to blue, so that's what it should be aliased to.

Blue has too many posts, it makes searching for any post harder.

believe it or not, I'd actually rather not have the teal/cyan argument again either.
Although Cyan is not teal, cyan is still closer to teal than blue, so aliasing cyan to teal makes more sense than all the current aliases to blue.

Yes, mostly because of the war on cyan, all the cyan tags are aliased to blue. Blue also happens to be a really popular color for whatever reason.

Then have some cyan things aliased to teal and some to blue, causing confusion. Cyan furred feet would end up tagged blue_fur+teal_feet with this suggestion. And considering teal is perceptually a darker greenish color, while cyan is perceptually a brighter blueish color, having bright blue feet tagged teal_feat would be more confusing than blue_feet.

While cyan is bluer than teal, technically true cyan is closer to teal than to blue. The only real good solution would be to unalias cyan and have it's own tags. Anyway, I was suggesting all cyan tags be changed to teal, but idk now might just cause further confusion. Cyan is in a really weird place, and I don't really feel like arguing about it. The only thing I'm 100% sure about is that cyan is not teal. Cyan is blue with some green, but not the half blue/ half green that teal is.

Cyan in RGB color space is half blue half green with full intensity(for 24 bit it would be 00ffff).
Teal is at half that(008080 for it's hex code).
CYMK teal is cyan+black I believe.
