Topic: Recategorization of "drawpile" tag

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Hi, I develop Drawpile and recently saw that there's a drawpile tag here that's categorized under "copyright".

Drawpile is just a drawing program, it doesn't have any copyright claims to the pieces that artists make with it. Having it listed that way might give people the wrong idea.

Would it be possible to recategorize the tag elsewise?

This lightly came up in the Discord a while ago but nobody ever really took the time to do anything about it:

Is group art created on websites like https://aggie.io/ allowed? So far it appears there's only a single tagged work on e6 so I'm curious. :kigthink:

Oh yes, there are a bunch of things like that on e621 I believe

What tags would stuff like that fall under. Everytime I try and come up with something I just fall back to 'collab'.

I mean, sounds good to me
But I get the idea that there's something specific about them that could be tagged like shared_canvas

Hmm, it doesn't appear to be a tag yet.. Okay, the only other thing I'd be concerned about is the arts quality requirements. This is artwork made by a bunch of rejects and unmitigated nerds, their scribbles... well... lemme see if I can gather up some of the better of whats on offer. :jackal_search:
Okay maybe not. I might come back to this later but I'll just have to leave that bonfire brewing, irl calls.

drawpile is a similar concept, but most the posts are very old and may not meet today's quality standards

something like shared_canvas would be much more ideal though

Yeah, drawpile is an actual program
I like shared_canvas

We really shouldn't be tagging what program a piece of art is made in. These tags are supposed to be for when some part of the UI, or some program mascot or something, is visible, where copyright is the most appropriate category for visible IP elements. Blender and SFM are the two tags most used to refer to 'made in X', but even their wikis say it should only be used when the UI or other related element is visible.

While this doesn't apply to any existing pictures tagged drawpile, it would also be bogus to do that when its UI elements or logos are shown, since Drawpile isn't a legal entity in itself. It's just a free software project, all the pieces of it are copyright to whoever made and modified them.

The copyright category is also used for the IPs themselves, like Digimon or Godzilla (series), not just the IP owners, which Drawpile would fit under.
