Topic: Tag alias: .. -> shortened_ellipsis

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Neither of the two posts tagged with .. seem to have anything to do with an ellipsis, shortened or not. No idea what it's supposed to represent.

shortened_ellipsis is fine as a tag, and the alias would make it more likely to be found, but need to sort that out first.

I don't think shortened_ellipses makes too much sense since it's a relative qualifier for something that doesn't have a specific length. Technically speaking, an ellipsis is any marking indicating an omission or pause. Three dots may be the most common, but there's no required length for it. ... is shortened of ...., which is shortened of ...... Another kind of ellipsis is * * *, where *** is a shortened version.

A mark or series of marks ( … or * * * , for example) used in writing or printing to indicate an omission, especially of letters or words.

They should both be aliased to ellipsis, IMO.

By far the most common form of ellipsis is ..., making .. a valid shortened form. I don't think it would have much value as a tag, but it's not something you can find with a combination of current tags.
