Topic: If a post gets rejected for quality issues, what's the proper way to fix those issues and get it approved?

Posted under Art Talk

I'm not asking about contesting a deletion you think is unreasonable. If a post is deleted for failing to meet the quality standard and it is indeed lacking in quality, how should an artist go back, fix the problems to bring it up to the standard, and try again without running afoul of the "do not reupload deleted posts" thing?

My attempts to peruse the help pages haven't answered this question, and if my one experience with this is anything to go by, posting a substantially improved version still seems to count as reuploading a deleted post. It feels like there's one tiny thing I'm missing, surely a community with this many active artists has run into this question before, but for the life of me I just can't find it.

Any pointers would be most appreciated.

bro, u reupladed the exactly drawing of the weird spongebob, and I don't think ur type of drawings r gonna be accepted although u "improve" the draw, so, don't try to reuplad that and uplad it somewhere, not here.

Quality standards usually come into play as either a fundamental issue with the file [skill, medium, presentation, or something similar] or corruption/artifacting in a video file. If an image gets deleted, no matter what you do to it to try and improve it, it will be deleted again. [this was worded poorly, disregard]

You're unfortunately out of luck with the spongebob drawing, at least until you get a good grip on the art program you choose to clean it up with. For future uploads you should attempt to keep the image clean [no scan artifacts like the rings of a sketchbook] and not artificially upscaled. Aside from that, whether your specific art style is considered of "quality" to be on this site is up to the janitors. Good luck!

That's not true. Previously deleted images can be reuploaded, if changes were done, and the reason for the deletion doesn't apply anymore.
In the case of the SpongeBob drawing, the biggest issue are the lines, in my opinion. They are very unsteady. And the anatomy... as far as anatomy can apply to a sponge.

Putting aside the deliberately cursed nature of your artwork (because I myself like a bit of cursed artwork from time to time, do I need to bring out the macro sandy vaccuum dick guys?), it seems the "tiny thing" you seem to be missing is that the sponebob piece you're referring to is just... bad. Sorry, but it's just objectively awful to look at.

The linework was done by just editing the levels in post production, meaning the black outline for a forehead wrinkle or a glob of cum can have the same width and thickness as the stripper pole. You also did not clean up the image properly as seen very clearly by the binder on the left of the image and the bottom corner, where the levels messed up the linework and paint fill. The anti-aliasing artifacts around his legs are visible, meaning you just filled in the area around them without cleaning those edges up first.

All this betrays a layer of inexperience when dealing with your illustration software, and that's not me saying your artwork is bad. I've taken the time to look at your other works on DA and I can see you're emulating the style of Mike Judge very well. What I would do is study the workflow of what application you're using and see what could be done to clean up your pencilwork for illustration. There's a lot of tutorials online about this, I'm sure you'll find one.

Anyway hope this criticism was welcomed and I wish you the best.

I guess my message was a bit too "final" sounding, lol. Apologies for that.

Yay! Some actionable feedback!

...though if by "binder" you mean the sketchbook rings, then I think you're looking at the non cleaned up version? This is the (allegedly) clean revision I was speaking of: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/55294569/

But yeah I definitely have more experience with the pencil/paintbrush to paper stuff than digitizing/cleanup. Rasterized photo editors like Paint.NET or GIMP do allow me to do a number of effects, but they also weren't really designed with this specific use case in mind, and I've heard some good things about Krita.

Yeah definitely get Krita, GIMP is useful for making very basic stuff but I find it far too cumbersome and annoying personally.
