Topic: Mismatched or Asymmetrical?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I was a little surprised after seeing topic #39831. Asymmetrical_wings was aliased to mismatched_wings.

I’ve already talked about using asymmetrical_ears on the forums. I am a big fan of the sneasels and sneasler, which both have one cat-like ear on the left and one feathered ear on the right as a trait of their species.

I was never told that the tag was wrong, nor about the existance of mismatched_* tags.

I want to talk about which term should be used before aliasing one to the other.

well, mismatched_* tags are normally like anatomically_inaccurate, for when a character has a feature that their species would normally have but said feature is taken from another species. most of the time it's mismatched_genitalia, like people putting dog cocks nearly on every species.

Except for mismatched_nipples, where the one nipple is visibly a different color than the other one…
Just thought that I should point that out…

i've seen in other boorus particularly danbooru have asymmetrical and mismatched tags coexist each other. taking asymmetrical_gloves from danbooru's wiki as an example:

Gloves that, by design, lack symmetry.

For differences in length, use uneven gloves.
For differences in color or pattern, use mismatched gloves.

basically by the language of danbooru, asymmetrical refers to the design and physicality while mismatched refers to the coloration and/or pattern. i would say that it can coexist here as well.

what would we do for anthro bird characters with like, bat wings, though?... I guess, that starts venturing going into the area of hybrids and chimera.

hmm...

maybe we also ought to rename mismatched_genitalia to anatomically_incorrect_genitals as well.

I feel like there could be a better name for this tag as well...
