Topic: Janitorial Upkeep for E6AI

Posted under General

Hello, I've made a similar forum on E6AI, this question is in regards to the E621/E6AI team. I was wondering if there were future plans on improving and/or increasing the janitorial staff for E6AI. It would seem as of lately that uploads made, sometimes entire pages would go days without approval.

It could be an issue if a lot of things are hitting the thirty-day mark and being deleted automagically due to either mod uncertainty or increasing workload. As AI work becomes more prevalent and the rate of uploads increases.

It isn't necessarily a big deal, It's just a hassle having to wait a few days to upload and checking back every few hours to see if anyone approved anything yet. I just thought I would ask. Thanks!

I highly doubt it

I'm guessing it's because most of the e6 staff disagree with ai art in the first place, I don't think their teams are the same aside from the higher up admins. I'm not sure you'll find a positive opinion on the site here.

I know that's most likely the case, just thought I'd ask. Considering they particularly made a site for that kind of art, it would seem kinda odd for them to suddenly stop caring for it all together. Heck I have some experience in scripts and JavaScript myself, I'd gladly offer to help out over there. lol

E621/E6AI team

We aren't the same team. The majority of us want nothing to do with that site, so you are asking in the complete wrong place.

I'm not gonna touch that website. In my personal opinion it does nothing but dilute the e621 brand and erode the trust real artists have to e621.

I'd sooner see that site rot away than help with it. If it were up to me, it would have never been started. However, that order for that came from on high, and lowly peons like myself have no say in that.

A manual approval queue for a site oriented towards unlimited generative content seems incredibly silly in the first place, if somebody can generate multiple semi-competent Stable Diffusion outputs every day, why wouldn't you just change how automated deletions work?

if the theory that e6ai was started just to shut up ai art bros and keep down the machine learnt submissions here is true, then I think that energy would've been better spent on a clone site for stuff that falls below the artistic minimum quality standards. even a crude drawing of a dog dick is far more worth preserving than the most "beautiful" """"""art"""""" stable diffusion is able to kitbash

Aside from everything else here, if you want to help out with development, both e6ai and e621 are running the same software.
It's open source, and accepting pull requests: https://github.com/e621ng/e621ng

I will certainly have to check that out and consider putting in a request. Thanks

Sounds like they’re struggling. Sucks for them lol

I’m afraid there’s nothing we here can do about that, though. Maybe one of their admins should get some more janitors for their site. Or they could just let everything get auto-deleted. That’s also a valid solution as far as I’m concerned.

honestly i don't get why e621 bothers with "quality standards" in the first place. there's already an upvote and downvote system to let DEMOCRACY decide what's good and what's bad, why do we need to put a couple of random pervs in charge of what's Truly Art or not? kinda goes against the supposed mission statement, but it's kinda obvious from context that nobody treats this place as anything more than a porn site for the lowest of horny dweebs.

Storage costs money. Why host content they don't want?

we're the largest furry community on the internet, we didn't get here by letting garbage fester in the cracks.

I think it's weird to simultaneously argue that e6's userbase is majorly braindead coomers but also the braindead coomers should be the ultimate arbiters of what content is or isn't preserved for public archival.

This also completely fails to grasp that many users are not looking to vote on the basis of quality, they'll upvote/downvote based solely on a post's themes rather than any display (or lack thereof) of artistic or technical skill. Many of the posts under order:score_asc are visually fine but the themes they present are consistently unpopular with users. Many posts under order:score delreason:*quality* are deleted because they are bad conversions of otherwise good content, post #3346790 is literally just a crusty SCP meme that accrued 1872 upvotes before its deletion, and even past AI generations, users will regularly submit low-quality, infinitely-producible works that simply do not merit long-term archival (status:deleted picrew). I also would not trust the vast majority of users to judge which translation edits are good and which ones are trash.

What a wacky take. Generalizations like this are always funny.
You just voiced an opinion you happen to hold, and since you can't possibly imagine yourself being wrong, then this is obviously what most people must think too.
Meanwhile, what context or data do you happen to have that backs up that claim?

If you want to make an actual argument, go right ahead.
But if all you have is insults, that's not gonna go well for you.

We are not the largest furry community on the internet.
Furaffinity hosts way more artwork, and gets more hits than we do.

However, the vast majority of stuff hosted in FA is hot garbage.
And that's what I think sets e621 apart from other sites – you can be reasonably sure that the stuff hosted here will be of decent quality.
That, and also having a robust search and blacklist system.

according to SimilarWeb we currently get about 21% more worldwide traffic than FA. we've had more traffic since sometime before june of 2022 (although we have actually lost a bit of ground since then).

In my opinion, it's actually the other way around. The search and blacklist is what makes e621 better by a lightyear. I and a number of others I know stopped using FA entirely because it's impossible to find anything on the site due to tagging being essentially non existent, not because you have to sift through garbage to find it - because if FA had even half the functionality of e621, we could just blacklist users who upload garbage, or filter by a minimum score.
