Topic: [APPROVED] Tag alias: fakepal -> fakemon

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #66177 fakepal -> fakemon has been approved.

Reason: Because fakemon already covers what fakepal would cover.

custom_pokemon, custom_digimon, fan_digimon, fan_pokemon, custom_pokémon, fakémon, fan_pokémon have already been aliased to it. https://e621.net/wiki_pages/6579

EDIT: The tag alias fakepal -> fakemon (forum #389647) has been approved by @spe.

Many fakex have some kind of direct connection to their parent franchise. For that reason alone tying them together would be problematic.

On the fakemon wiki page: "The following tags are aliased to this tag: custom_pokemon, custom_digimon, fan_digimon, fan_pokemon, custom_pokémon, fakémon, fan_pokémon (learn more)."

This seems like a reasonable extension. If fakemon is a good tag for the whole group is another discussion, one I wasn't ready to open.

Edit: Also, you could always disambiguate with "fakemon palworld" and such.

-1 too soon to judge. I know Palworld is Pokemon with guns and it's got a number of barely legal creatures, but if a term was made so artists could make creatures based off Palworld rather than Pokemon then I'd say go for it.

Maybe you're right, but imho I'd say too soon.

Aliases have been wrong before.

Didn't realize fan digimon were tied to it... personally I disagree with that, too (but not strongly enough to debate it).

Changing my vote from down to neutral.

Pal are basically fakemon to begin with anyway. And "fakemon" is a tag to separate the creature from any given source (fakemon isn't specific to and doesn't imply pokemon, nor should they be tagged as pokemon/digimon/whatever unless specific features related to the source are present).

While I disagree with your first part, the fakemon being for digimon and such as well is why I made the alias request in the first place. I probably shouldve been more elaborate in the OP

I think now is the best time to make that alias, BECAUSE it is tagged so little, yet.

If fake Digimon count as fakemon then why shouldn't fake Pals? Either separate the franchises or alias them all.

Fakémon are fan-made creations that are based on Pokémon, Digimon, Monster Rancher, and other such franchises. Also includes fan-made variations, new evolutions, and so on.

This tag serves no purpose beyond "fan_character <franchise with monsters>", we may as well have a "my_little_ponidae" or "space_alien_oc_race" tag if it's only purpose is to serve as a dumping bin for unofficial characters. What are the limits? Do recolours count? What are "other such franchises"? Yokai Watch? Monster Hunter? Does it need to fit into the same genre of games, are we using the animes as what makes them "similar" enough? Grouping all fan characters for monster sims together is about as exact a tag as doing so for characters derived from any other genre, such as mecha, fps, isekai, or hell, we might as well make a whole tag for "fake_dungeons_and_dragons", surely?

They're species though, not characters. It looks like there is a fan_species tag, maybe they should be aliased to that?

It's for new species, not characters. And while it can include fanworks, it's not limited to preestablished franchises. For example, faunazon is not a pokemon and shouldn't be tagged as one. It's its own species, and individual faunazon characters aren't fan_characters of anything.

Honestly, "fan_species" seems a little dubious. No one owns a clade that species are derived from, and to the extent that a new species can be based on another, that's what hybrid handles, tagging what it's based on if it's not a distinctly separate species. Like, a lot of Pal themselves can be said to be pokemon fan species (you can't look at them and say a number of them aren't, shall we say, heavily inspired by specific pokemon species), where the only distinction between them and certain other fakemon (like faunazon) is that they're part of a distinct new IP.
