The wiki for it on e621 states pumpkins. e6 doesn't follow dictionary definitions.

A jack-o'-lantern is a hollowed-out pumpkin with a face or picture carved or marked on its rind.

i don't think it's a good idea to have jack-o'-lantern apply only when there's a gourd present

sure, if you have a good name for this specific design than use it (far from all jack-o'-lanterns have that same design, after all). but i just don't see the advantage to it when compared to just letting the jack-o'-lantern tag be used for more abstract applications
