Topic: [REJECTED] Tag alias: amputated_tail -> docked_tail

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #66879 amputated_tail -> docked_tail has been rejected.

Reason: These mean the same thing but docked_tail is the more popular term.

Alternatively docked_tail could be aliased to amputated_tail to avoid using a more technical term that people may not understand intuitively.

A con to this: amputated_tail is tagged on posts that more heavily lean into amputee/amputation and gore fetish content. Docked_tail also features this conent, but also contains posts that would not necessarily appeal to the same audience or gross-out the people who would want to blacklist amputation content.

EDIT: The tag alias amputated_tail -> docked_tail (forum #392028) has been rejected by @slyroon.

On one hand, I could see them being basically the same thing, but on the other hand, docked_tail comes off as like done for aesthetics reasons while amputated seems more like done for medical/accidentally cut off.
But on the third hand(PENIS HAND) e621 doesn't typically differentiate between the two, so it probably can be merged?

I think Docked implying Amputated is for the best; docking is a very specific form of costmetic amputation, but not all amputation is docking. One would not refer to the circumstance of a lizard losing it's tail as docking, and some dogs recieve only partial docking traditionally rather than the full-on stub, similar to sheep.

To be honest, we need to phase out amputated_* in favour of missing_* (e.g., amputated_arm is aliased to missing_arm).
That way people don't get confused between the often bloody act of amputation and that of a clean & healed post-amputation stump.

honestly, amputated_* kinda sounds like it should be for the same situation as severed_*, that is the body part that is no longer attached to a body, rather than a body witha missing part.

We could disambiguate it or just alias straight to amputation if that is an actual tagging issue.

Edit: Somebody just made a BUR about it, see topic #42665.

Yeah, I started looking into the related tags here and discovered that they were a mess and extremely inconsistent lmao. Probably should detangle that nonsense before tackling small stuff like docked tails.
