Topic: Elora tagging questions: crotches and catchphrases, you dork

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

1. Can a character be tagged with featureless_crotch if they have a crotch_tuft, or does the prominent fur count as a "feature" that covers it up? e.g. these images:

Or is it preferable to use the combination crotch_tuft + naturally_censored, as has been done on the image below?

2. I recently made a set for posts referencing her "I'm a faun, you dork" quote, as well as those that reference her bending over sideways pose when she says it in the Reignited Trilogy: https://e621.net/post_sets/55932

Do you think that line has now become enough of a catchphrase that images referencing it deserve their own i'm_a_faun,_you_dork copyright tag, like has happened to some other memes?

If so, should that tag apply only to images that reference the whole phrase? Or could it also be added to images that have just the bending over pose without any dialogue, and to images like the one below that just have her announcing her species without calling anyone a dork?

3. As for the dork tag itself: it's currently used on both images where the word "dork" appears in text, and images where characters just give off a dorky vibe.

The word's wiki page currently says "a dork is a cetacean penis. do not tag for anything other." As far as I can tell, that etymology is a misconception. (See for example the disputes about it on the word's Wiktionary article and Straight Dope message board ) And no images on this site currently use it that way (the search dork cetacean gives no results).

So how should we use the tag? Should it be used on images where the word appears in text, or on images where it describes the character's demeanour? Or should it be an invalid tag, like "adorkable", "idiot" and "stupid"?

Updated

the crotch_tuft and naturally_censored sounds like best tags to be applied to elora's area
but unless we can see anything other than fur it should be questionable at best, unless other parts of the image prove otherwise

i think that her phrase should be meme material and those copywright tags do make certain searches a little easier. it should be with the phrase and pose though but yeah i'm on board with this so far

and why would we need a dork tag for other than dorks

"Featureless crotch" basically means "no genitals and no anus". Pubic tufts of whatever sort don't count. Therefore, a character with pubic tufts covering the genitals would be considered the same as a character with Barbie-doll, Saturday morning cartoon anatomy TWYS-wise. The two concepts would be virtually identical, so would be tagged as either Safe or Questionable depending on presentation and ignoring other elements in the post.

If it's ascended to meme status, then it can probably be tagged, but I'd limit it to be recognizably the pose and phrase together (as by itself, text doesn't really matter; it needs to support what is TWYS visible for it to matter, so no pose, phrase irrelevant). It would then be recognizable and taggable when another character does it.

"Dork" originally was slang for "penis". If it ever referred to any specific animal's penis, then it would arguably be the human animal's rather than a cetacean's.

So how should we use the tag? Should it be used on images where the word appears in text, or on images where it describes the character's demeanour? Or should it be an invalid tag, like "adorkable", "idiot" and "stupid"?

Text doesn't count unless it supports what is TWYS visible, so it should not be tagged when "dork" ever appears in text. It shouldn't be tagged whenever a penis of any sort is visible; that's what penis is for. And giving off a dorky vibe is, I think, as subjective as cute used to be. What might be adorkable to you might just be gawky and awkward to me and just ugly to another person.

Overall, I think dork should just be pitched into the round file with all the other invalid tags.

My concern with that is the number of tags with featureless_crotch anus

It might need a discussion. That could be argued as a misunderstanding of what exactly is a crotch, methinks, so would arguably be mistaggings. I've pretty much interpreted featureless_crotch as something to describe SFW nudity as we see in cartoons, so no genitals and no anus.
