Reason:

These two tags feel unnecessary, and more importantly, they're confusing. The line between what constitutes a "digital drawing" vs a "digital painting" isn't explicit and I think it results in two tags that are often used when they really don't need to be. There's also the fact that we don't make this distinction for traditional art and in fact have "traditional_drawing_(artwork)" aliased to "traditional_media_(artwork)", which just emphasizes how unnecessary these two tags are.

There's always going to be some confusion, but they're pretty clearly distinct things. In digital paintings, you can usually see the strokes.

Though a cleanup and probably a better wiki for both would be a good idea. It can definitely be tricky sometimes especially when digital drawings use a lot of complex shading, I know I've mixed them up.

digital_painting_(media) is also pretty undertagged.

This I think is a good reason to consider it. People mistag, it's difficult to tell apart, and even people aware of the difference can mix them up. From my experience in art sites, digital artists will often use the term "painting" for any rendered digital art, not just digital art that emulates the look of traditional paints. I don't suspect a clearer wiki will stop mistags since it's a term people with experience making digital art use to mean digital artwork, and not realize e6 has a stricter definition.
