You could also tell a bone is broken by a significant bend where there isn't a joint, without having to see the bone itself.

True. I was actually thinking of suggesting a compound fracture tag to differentiate between situations where the bone has broken the skin and where it hasn't but I wasn't sure how needed it would be.
