I don't even think we have a comic book shop in town here. Actually I think there might be one downtown, but from what I've heard the staff and regular customers are dicks to people who they don't recognize.

Well that is a shame.I would use the internet to find comic book stores around you to see if there is anything closer though.

There are three shop in town, all well received. I might check 'em out before I go to see Age of Ultron.

I wouldn't even know where the comic book store in my town is if it has one. It's kind of a shame, too, since it'd be nice to get a free book, especially from an indie publisher, but most comics are cheap and digital these days.

Mega Man and Sonic have a free comic, Avatar the Last Airbender has a free comic, Secret Wars, Avengers, TONS more then just some indie publish stuff.

I know that, but if I'm gonna get into a comic book series, I'd rather it be something with a definite beginning and (eventual) end, have a shorter run, a single writer, and be a series I'm unfamiliar with.

Despite my raging hard-on for the DCAU and a few other superhero cartoons and movies, I've always been scared away from reading more mainstream comics themselves by the facts that there's usually years of stuff to go through, status quos to be maintained, reboots, and inconsistencies/retcons are all over the place, especially due to different writers.

Well if you want comics that just started then I would go for Spider-Gwen comics and or Spider-Man 2099.Another good thing that just started was the Sonic the Hedgehog reboot should be about 6 or so in by now if I remember right.Following that a good one is Arkham Manor where Batman is going mad crazy in his own home. Steven Universe Issue 1 is out now, then we also have Wolverines where clones are fighting to take over wolverine's place after his death.Oh and the Predator Vs. _______ comics. Then DC also did comics for Mortal Kombat X.

Free Comic Book day is more about going to the comic book store to see things other then the free comics. Also two of those free comics are pre story for the main event about to start in the next few months.Secret Wars and the Avengers' comics are ''#0'' issues.

I completed my Ghostbusters collection today! Outside of the Ninja Turtles crossover, because it's sold out everywhere in my area. Darn. Also got some delicous Geoff Johns Aquaman. Geoff is one of my favorite writers now, between Aquaman and JSA.

I was in the same place as you a couple years ago. Start yourself off with Batman Beyond 2.0, a comic taking place in the DCAU after Beyond and before that JLU episode. Do you have a favorite superhero in the DCAU? There's pribably a good recomendation list made by /co/ somewhere. And if you want to know how I started off, it was with unconnected one-shot stories that gave glimpses into the worlds of characters so one could familiarize with them. Stuff like "Batman: Mad Love" or "All-Star Superman" is good for this. I started with "Shazam: Power of Hope".
