Topic: Is hugging_during_sex really necessary?

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #8452 is pending approval.

create alias hugging_during_sex (23) -> hugging_another (7916)
create alias embracing_during_sex (470) -> hugging_another (7916)

Reason: I don't think it is. Hugging_another sex basically returns all the same results with a very low false positive rate, and likewise you can filter it out with hugging_another -sex.

(Continued from here)

So... we've got a whole mess of *_partner tags... hugging_partner doesn't currently exist, but it seems like it would fit in with that trend... assuming we want to keep most of those at all. But it would be a little more general than just "hugging during sex" as it would also include pre-sex and post-sex scenes, as well as just any clearly romantic interaction involving hugging, while being more specific than "hugging another" which is just any hug between any two characters regardless of apparent relation. Should we decide to have a tag like that, it would probably be a better alias target for these tags.

Would this be useful? Would it be pointless? I'm not sure, it's just an idea that came to me while looking at this

I honestly don't think we need many of those. We have a lot of *_another tags, where *_partner is just the same thing but with sexual stuff going on, which other tags can indicate. The*_partner tags are used alongside *_another, which comes across as superfluous tag padding, duplicating the *_another tags we already have.

Sort of what I was thinking, but I’d like to be consistent. I guess the question, then, is where to draw the line. At least a few of the *_partner tags have rather different connotations than the *_another counterparts, though many of them are very similar in practice.

I guess that’s a BUR for another time, though.

As for the current proposal, another thing that comes to mind: a fair number of hugging_another sex results are hugging_penis situations, while embracing_during_sex sort of implies a regular body hug. Would this be worth keeping the tag for?
Counterpoint: adding -hugging_penis to the search works fine, though now we’re starting to make it a bit complicated to search for this simple concept. Also, this tag is badly underpopulated if we are to keep it, making it hardly useful for its intended purpose unless people start populating it.
