Topic: Feature Request: disable Alias in search results

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

It greatly annoys me every time i try searching for something rather specific only to find that it has been aliased to something far more broad

I would like to be able to search without the alias'

what do you mean? do you just not want aliases to not show up on the autocomplete? because any other form of "disabling aliases" on the user end would be literally impossible.

I want to be able to put something like "ignore alias" in my search query and only have the images with the exact tags i have to show up

like for example instead of getting every image tagged "hybrid" when i search "human pokemon hybrid" i only get the "human pokemon Hybrid"

nothing is going to have aliased tags on them, aliasing merges two tags together entirely.

Then alias as been implemented incorrectly! with this implementation you might as well not have tags at all

the word you're looking for here is pokemon_humanoid

You hvae missed the forest for the ferns
I was giving an example of when alias fucks me over other cases include

"human pony hybrid"
"Sonichu_(species)"
"Human Eldar hybrid"
And any other variation of

aliases are tags that have the same meaning as another tag, or are deemed unsuitable for tagging due to a multitude of reasons. So you can't search for tags that have been aliased as they won't have any posts.

Aliases affect adding tags too, so that would be useless, as all posts will be under the alias.

Aliases are usually created either because what they're searching for is too specific (two tone fingerless elbow gloves), or they're equivalent or they don't differ by enough to matter (there's other reasons but i'm not covering them here).

Though that's not to say there's no solutions for your problem. You can choose to

a) Make a BUR unaliasing the tag. You'll have to make your point on why the tag should be distinct and how (if it's a general tag) it can be objectively tagged by twys

b) Either find a set containing posts which have the concept you're looking for, or make one yourself. You can do this simultaneously with a), and move all the posts in the set into the tag once approved. If it its rejected, you still have the set. (You can search for posts in a set with set:setname)

c) Search using tag changes to see what posts were under the tag before it got aliased (example using gay)

I'm not even sure what your problem is exactly I mean you can just search human pony hybrid, but it's not going to give you anything you want since human is exclusively used for "pure humans". there are animal_humanoid tags for pretty much any species you could want to look for, and I'm pretty sure that's what you want with that.

if you want Sonichu characters or Sonichu inspired characters you can probably just look at the sonichu_(series) tag. sonichu_(species) probably should be aliased to the series rather than straight to hybrid, actually.

We do not tag generic hybrids because that would result in an explosion of tags. There are already 42,447 species tags according to the stats, allowing tags for all the hybrids between 2 species would create 900852681 (42447 choose 2) new tags, and unlimited stacking of hybrids would result in 2^(42447-1) tags

technically, we do _kinda_ have tags for human hybrids, the *_humanoid tags, but nothing beyond that, and even those are a bit of a mess.

Oh yeah those exist. On a furry site humans are always gonna get special treatment

If you really wanted/needed to and you know the old tag you can use changes to search for it. Try throwing 'feral_dog' in the added tags field. This will only work if it has been used as a tag, which human_pokemon_hybrid has never been.
