Topic: I got a question about two rules...

Pay content and screenshot

In one example and case I got in mind: A visual novel, Like Adastra, etc.

If I screenshot or upload an scene of one Public visual novel (and problably was patreon like paid content for teaser and now its free for everyone), does it count as doing a fault or breaking the rule?

Since it's available for everyone (at least who reach certain scene)

I'm not entirely sure on this, but I have a vague recollection of what staff have said previously, something along the lines of "content ripped from a game counts as a screencap, but it's acceptable to post CGs that have been officially posted on artists' galleries."

E6 generally isn't the place to upload gameplay footage, aside from the occasional promotional material (game trailers, mainly).
It's generally allowed as long as it's from an official source (the developer/publisher, like edef's heat (vr game) posts).

If it's a piece of art mimicking gameplay (see gameplay_mechanics, visual_novel_interface), then it's totally fine.

Screencaps are generally not acceptable. But we give some leeway for artists who want to present their game, to showcase things like new features. If they show the same thing multiple times, it is likely to be deleted. And it has to follow the standard quality guidelines.

  • If it is a screenshot/CG rip you made of a public/free game, it would be considered as a screencap and should not be uploaded.
  • If it is a screenshot/CG rip you made of a paid/commercial game, it would be considered as a paysite/commercial content and should not be uploaded.
  • If it is a screenshot/CG rip the artist made of their own game (either paid or public), it depends.
    • If the artist posted it solely for paying supporters (e.g., teaser posted on Patreon), it would be considered as paysite/commercial content and should not be uploaded.
    • If the artist initially posted it for paying supporters and then subsequently released it publicly, it can be uploaded*.
    • If the artist posted it publicly for all to see, it can be uploaded*.

*As long as it does not violate any other rules such as low quality standards/advertisements.
