Topic: Tag alias: detached_sheath -> sheath

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #71494 detached_sheath -> sheath is pending approval.

Reason: This tag is very badly named and very inconsistently used. I think that there is potentially something worth tagging here, but as the tag is currently named, defined, and applied it's too broad. It currently is used any time a sheath's opening is not flush to the belly.

Now an alternative to aliasing it to just 'sheath' is coming up with a different name for stuff where there's sort of a foreskin/sheath hybrid like this:

Maybe foreskin_sheath or long_sheath?

I think I'd support aliasing to long_sheath. I think long_sheath is a bit more descriptive than "detached" which makes me think the sheath is completely separated from the body by magic or as the result of gore.

.long_sheath doesn't really describe it. A sheath can be long while still attached flush with the abdomen as normal, and not be as long while not being attached normally.

Yeah, neither alternative is a perfect fit, which is why I suggested just aliasing it to sheath. Because currently I can't tell what criteria people are using for the cutoff of when a sheath is no longer considered 'detatched.'
Like if it applies to post #3858426, post #109825, and even stuff where the sheath is retracted like post #2017654 what doesn't it apply to?
