Topic: A problem with pointy_ears BUR

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #8901 is pending approval.

remove alias pointed_ear (0) -> humanoid_pointy_ears (65470)
remove alias point_ear (0) -> humanoid_pointy_ears (65470)
remove alias point_ears (0) -> humanoid_pointy_ears (65470)
remove alias pointy_ears (0) -> humanoid_pointy_ears (65470)
remove alias pointed_ears (0) -> humanoid_pointy_ears (65470)

Reason: too generic and prone mistaging, there dozens of different types of pointy ears that are not humanoid or only have a borderline resemblance

Not humanoid ears examples

Borderline (outlined shape but no traits of a humanoid ear or traits that are not humanoid) examples
post #1787906 post #1897890 post #4289002 post #967178 post #350279

And yes all examples and 100s or 1000s more like these are presently tagged with humanoid_pointy_ears.

Updated

additional part of the BUR that must be input manually

alias pointed_ear -> pointy_ears
alias point_ear -> pointy_ears
alias point_ears -> pointy_ears
alias pointed_ears -> pointy_ears
alias pointy_eared -> pointy_ears

Updated

What would we think about something like this instead?
imply humanoid_pointy_ears -> pointy_ears imply prick_ears -> pointy_ears
So rather than a disambiguation tag that regularly needs to be cleaned up, we have an umbrella tag for pointy ears regardless of form or species. No manual upkeep required.

ngl, I kinda love this. And I think it would function quite well in practice. +1

I agree with that suggestion.

Should that be an alias instead? I don't see humanoid_pointy_ears as being terribly different from humanoid+pointy_ears.

That seems fine, the disambiguation does in hindsight seem rather unnecessary as the uses are related. +1

edited those out.

I like this idea

humanoid + pointy ears and no humanoid_pointy_ears:

humanoid_pointy_ears and not humanoid:
post #5000359 (apparently humanoid_taur doesn't imply humanoid)
