Topic: [REJECTED] Tag implication: akanbe -> eyelid_pull

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

It is an eyelid_pull.

akanbe wiki says:
Akanbe is often paired with tongue_out, but isn't required. Simply pulling down the eyelid is enough.

It should be an alias instead of an implication, since they're the same thing.

eyelid_pull is a tag that simply describes an eyelid being pulled, whereas akanbe is a gesture that incorporates an eyelid pull. An eyelid can be pulled for various different reasons and in various different ways, but akanbe describes a very specific gesture in which the eyelid is pulled down in order to tease or taunt.

This is sufficiently different from an eyelid pull out of frustration, boredom, pleasure, or any other situation which eyelid_pull would also apply.

Akanbe absolutely incorporates an eye pull, but they are not fundamentally the same tag.

I don't think we should distinguish tags for the reason of the action, as that starts encroaching on TWYK; it either is the action or it isn't. Other tags can be used to distinguish what's happening as needed, such as taunting, bored, annoyed, etc.

Though even if there's a need for separate tags for the different reasons of actions, I'd still be against using an obscure foreign word that people won't know or be unlikely to find.

I'd agree with that, other tags can definitely be used for that purpose and to describe the pic. However, I'm still all for keeping the tag for the specific usage of the eyelid_pull due to the (typically visual) context in which it's used.

As for the usage of a foreign word for the tag, the ahegao tag is definitely the best tag for what it is. The word alone may not reflect what the actual subject or meaning behind the word is right offhand to those who don't speak Japanese, but it's something that far more people can visually recognize rather than just hearing the specific foreign term. I've definitely learned a lot of new terms just by searching for tags, and they're terms I otherwise would've never even known existed.
